tantrums

my son gets ABA, but they are not acknowleding that he has tantrums ( just found out they need 6 things together at once to qulify tantrum, biting, banging on floor, scream, running away etc) which is a lot to do at once! i find running away and screaming is a tantrum.  he gets very upset over things I cannot predict.
i want him to learn to cope by himself eventually-i will not always be there. he is now "HFA" and 8.5 years old.
i think he is teachable for self coping skills, but aba says thats not their concern its cognitive behavior..
