weaning off risperdal

weaning off risperdal

I have been on risperdal for 12 years, I have also been weaning off since 1-09.  Now, as of 5-1-10 I am finally off, however, after 10 days being off I feel extra hungry, light headed at the base of the neck, an alot of movement of my tongue and very thirsty, as well as on the 10th day off my toes curling down.  What is this? I also noticed that when I wean down I feel extra tired and sleep more for 2-3 weeks then I feel fine.  I also get no help from my shrink during this process. Will these things eventually go away?  The bright side is that now I am off and don't get angry or agitated like I used to, I feel my brain working the way it should.

The side effects of comming off of the medication that you are mentioning may be quite serious. This is something that must be discussed with your psychiatrist and your psychiatrist should be outlining for you all of the things that you might expect to occur following termination of the medication and what you should do if you experience them.
