Delay in diagnosis

by G_MaMa, Oct 08, 2009 02:27PM
We are trying to get a diagnosis for our 3 1/2 yr. old grandson. His parents have an appointment next week, and we anticipated getting the autism diagnosis that day. Now they say the parents have to get an appointment with a pediatrician to discuss the results, and that appointment is 5 weeks from now. Understandably, the parents are upset with all the delays. They want to get our grandson diagnosed and into an ABS school right away, yet they keep getting put off. My daughter is going to lose her mind, literally, if they don't  just get him diagnosed already! To whom should they appeal to get the diagnosis stated the same day as the appointment next week. Don't they undersand that my daughter (and her husband, and us) are heartbroken and desperately seeking help?

wow.  i totally understand  my daughter is five and because she would only be borderline autistic the drs are refusing to label her in fear her condition may change and it not be true.  just keep pushing and they eventually will give in.

If I may offer help, I know how your daughter feels I was in that situation 5 years ago with my 1st son. The doctors offerd me no help and a very late diagnosis which slowed things down. I did alot of research and still do alot. Please tell your daughter to get very very well informed about autism and options for help. There are huge breakthroughs on treatments the earlier the better the results. NO doctor will offer anything they never do just therapy. Please go to Autism one. org plenty of information. The best thing that helped my son was a DAN doctor. With every month he is improving and now you cant tell he has autism. This would never have been possible have I just did nothing like the doctors want you to. There is help, there is hope!!!
