Desperate for help

My nephew is 16 years old.  He has almost no verbal communication skills.  He has been diagnosed with Autism, PDD, oppositional definat disorder, and a few other things I'm not sure of.  Our problem is he is 16 years old and looks like a linebacker.  He has always had tantrums and "pitched fits", but now he is pushing his mother down, putting his fist through sheetrock walls, beating on the cars, hitting his 72 year old grandfather, throwing things, etc.  This happens any time he doesn't get exactly what he wants when he wants it.  My parents spend a lot of time with him and I have grown concerned that my nephew will hurt them in one of these fits.  We don't know where to get any help.  He's on several medications, etc, but nothing is helping and this is just getting worse.  We had a terrible scene last night and he screams at the top of his lungs, kicked doors, knocked over lamps, beat on three different vehicles, pushed his mother about five feet across the room, hit his grandfather, dented the wall in his bedroom, and the list goes on.  Has anyone else had these experiences and can anyone point us in a clear direction?  We are at our wits end.  I'm afraid we are going to have to find a facility that can care for him if we don't get a handle on this.  His doctor says we just have to hang on until he grows up.  Help please.

My son is now thirty years old and adolescence was the worst time due to hormonal changes . However , he did have out of the blue tantrums, or rages since the age of three. I have been distracted by well meaning experts who diagnose all sorts of mental illnesses and then prescribe various psychotropic meds with the ultimate reasoning that I was in danger.  My son has none of these illnesses and he is no longer on any neuroleptic or other psychotropic meds.
I am convinced that my son is and has been in pain due to fungal overgrowth in the gut and the potent neurotoxins they produce , i.e. acetaldehyde being the worst toxin affecting his chest (heart muscle and brain). He is on ketoconazole and a yeast free low oxalate diet. When all is under control ,all the behaviors are gone and he is one happy fellow.
Michael Goldberg, M.D. has great info on the web about Candida and gut disbiosis.  Also, look up the five stages of Candida and you will see listed the progressive stages of candia overgrowth and the behaviors the toxins produce. It sounds like your nephew is in at least stage three.
Know that initially with an antifungal medication he will get worse before he gets better due to die off reaction but be brave and stay the course because there is a wonderful person on the other side. This does involve lifestyle changes ,it's not easy , but way better than what you are enduring now. I know. I have been thru damage and destruction over the years as well as being spat on and attacked.
We made our son's room  a safe , practically damage proof room for him to go to when he is out of control where he can calm down and where we were not  targets of his rage.
Look up The Seat 0f the Soul by Andrew Wakefield  on how Autism begins.
These are the directions I can point you in . I hope they are helpful.
May you find kindness in all that you meet.

I agree with the post from Eldermom about the yeast overgrowth.  My son also has PDD-NOS. For the past year I have been treating him for leaky gut syndrom (syndrome) and yeast overgrowth.  It's a sad fact that I had to discover on my own what he had going on with him and how I could fight it.  The yeast die off can be traumatic in some cases for the person being detoxed  but it is well worth it.  I am still fighting candida and other toxins in my son and I have just began trying a new therapy for him.  If you go to the website of Even Better Now and look up the parent testimonials about Kids Clear clay baths, that might be helpful for your nephew as well.  Eldermom is right.  These kids don't want to be this way and there is a wonderful person inside your nephew just begging to be let out. Don't let anyone give up hope!                        Blessed Be.  Mysticwomyn
