Dev Ped Appt

Ok, guys I have a question... My son who is 2 finally got his dev pediatrician appt. She said my son has all the symptoms of autism but 1 and she has a gut feeling that he doesnt have autism based on this fact. My son loves adults. He doesnt like kids his own age but he treats every adult like he would me or his dad. He goes to each adult wanting picked up. I have asked others and they feel that you cant diagnose like that. I was even told that was common with aspbergers but he has a severe language delay and with aspbergers you usually dont... any thoughts????

Treating every adult like his own parents does not sound normal to me.  I'd go for a second opinion with a different doctor.  Did she say he had something else?  Autism is supposed to manifest itself differently in different children, so some kids may have different symptoms.  I have heard autism is sometimes hard to diagnose for under 3, if it is not a moderate to severe case.  Which I guess means maybe your son doesn't have a bad case or has something else that is causing the delay... and I realize without a diagnosis, it's harder to get treatments and therapy that are tailored to autism if that's what it is.  I'm still waiting for my daughter's developmental pediatrician visit in March and am getting stressed out not knowing what to expect from it.  Her three therapists all swear she has autism, based on their interactions with her during therapy every week, which is why we're waiting for this doctor diagnosis.  Another type of doctor that can diagnose autism is a pediatric neurologist.  I am not sure if they do something different or what, but my friend had her son diagnosed by a neurologist, not a developmental pediatrician.  I'd definitely get a second opinion... and btw, a good developmental pediatrician has a long waitlist, like 4 to 6 months.  So, if you have to wait longer to get in, that means the better they are supposed to be.  Nothing is a guarantee in this world, and waiting really sucks.
