I am not a specialist but.....
Clinicians I've encountered use PDD-NOS differently and it can be really frustrating
PDD-NOS could be Dx'd when there is impairment in all three areas but one or all areas are not impaired "enough" to warrant the actual diagnosis. In this case you may have less stereotypical behaviours I guess......or less agression.
In other cases with PDD-NOS two of the three areas will be impacted moderately or severely
Yesterday we saw a pediatric neuro that said that she only diagnosed PDD in children with serious impairments (no speech, poor muscle tone, etc) so she felt "autistic features" or "atypical personality development" did not fall into this category.
PDD-NOS almost always will have speech delay, while Aspergers does not
Both PDD-NOS and Aspergers as well as autism are on autism spectru
My child's pediatrician said that my child does not look like ASD child at all....But he is. Especially when he is at school. You can call in Sensory Integration Disorder if you like. But thing is, simliar interventions are most likely to be helpful - targeted to better organization of environment.
I think label matters as long as it gets you appropriate resources. Treatments will be different from child to child...I say call it all "atypical personality development" and be done with it. May save our healthcare system some money
do u know the difference of one w/ autism vs Pdd-nos may exhibit for behaviors?
She has not been evaluated but I will ask them about Pdd-NOS thank you
She sounds more like she has an autism (Pdd-NOS) diagnosis than aspergers. She is exhibiting many sensory issues. Has she been evaluated yet?
i would get her evaluated she sounds like my 7 year old good luck hun.
