Does my son have autism

by mammaHaines, Nov 10, 2009 08:03PM
My son is almost 2 and a 1/2.  He is barely putting two words together at a time and is still pretty hard to understand.  I could have conversations with my daughter when she was this age.  I have caught him several times lining things up around the house.  He also always has some kind of a stick in his hands.  He often lifts one foot up to where only his toes are touching the ground and stands still with his head down.  Should I be concerned?

You do need to have him evaluated as early intervention is so important in treating autism. Lining up is very typical of autism. get him checked so you can get him back on track quickly.

All of my children line things up. Its a sensory adaptation and molds a babies/toddlers brains. We teach children in school to line things up. We teach them patterns.. we teach them algebra.  Geometry. Lining up things.. is normal.. unless.. its a constant thing. Something that becomes an obsession.

My 2 1/2 year old says only one word at a time. No sentence making. Is this your first child? what number child is he?There are so many other variant than simply lining things up to even begin thinking he may have autism.

Has he had a hearing test lately? Do you work with him facilitating flash cards? Who is the primary care taker ? how is his diet? was he born early?

see? Dont go running off yet getting him tested.. make a log book.. write down what he does, how he does it.. get some flash cards.. see what happens.. get  a real hearing test.. one where he will be tested in diffferent TONES..

If after that.. you are still concerned.. then take him to a specialist. Talk to your PCP about what steps you should take next.
