I think my 10 year old has Autisum where do I begin? Or am I over analizing this?

I think my 10 year old has Autisum where do I begin? Or am I over analizing this?

I have a 10 year old boy who has always been early in all of his developmental milestones.  Running by 9 months, first words at 6 months and full sentences by a year.  Different things through the years have brought me to the Dr.s and they've been passed over.
1) He toe walks = "he'll out grow it" didn't grow out till he was in braces for years & still does it some
2) He hardly sleeps = "some kids don't need much sleep"
3) His social skills are lacking with adults and non existent with peers = "some kids are shy"
4) little to no eye contact = "shy"
5) runs down the hall crashes into book shelf turns around runs the other way til he hit the fridge and repeats behavior for hours on end (at the age of 4) = "ADHD"
6) Everything must be done to the T = "He's particular"
and the list goes on.
He is currently on ADHD meds along with blood presure meds to aid in sleep.  Behavior is still hard to handle, he's very emotional, has no friends (his peers don't tease or pick on him but have no common ground and dont play with him either), sleeps less than 7 hours a night (on meds), rarely smiles, doesn't think of others (when asked to get forks out for dinner gets 1 for himself), often times he seems oblivious to the world around him and at other times he is so distracted by every movement or sound that he cant do assigned task, dresses himself in a particular order (can't put on his pants unless he's got socks on first), he is extremely bright gets all A's except in spelling (always has), an amazing vocabulary, can recite any commercial he's ever heard, is amazingly patient with his 2 year old sister, typically helpful, often flat toned and does not show feelings until he bursts into tears in a scrambled mess of complaints that he's obviously bottled up inside for a long time.

Where do I begin to unravel all of this and discover if there's something more than ADHD going on here?
Thanks for listening,
Lindsay

Hi! The thing with the fork made me smile. My daughter does the EXACT same thing. My first thought was Aspergers Syndrome. It's a high functioning form of autism. Contact his pediatrician and tell him you want him screened for autism. This is usually done by a child psychologist or a team of developmental therapists. They will meet with the 2 of you and ask him to do a few tasks. They might even go to his school and watch him interact with his teacher and peers. You could also contact your son's school. The special education person there may be able to help you as well.

I don't much care for my son's Dr.  I've been saying for 4 years that his ADD/ADHD meds don't cut it for him, and I think it's more than that.  All he does is increase his meds (he's now taking an adults dose and is just 62lbs plus a med that is strictly to enhance the effect of the ADD/ADHD med.

Quite frankly I'm sick of medicating my son with little to no effect and things continue to get worse.  All the Dr. seems to do is play with meds.  When he's been on numerious meds of all kinds of levels and nothing much changes I just don't see why the Dr. seems unwilling to look further into the matter.

I think I'm going to go change his Dr. on Monday to the pediatrician my daughter sees.  She seems to listen to me where as my son's Dr. does not.

I think that's a good idea. I do believe that some kids need meds, but if it's not working then you need to look elsewhere. It really does sound like much more than ADD.
