Medication help for MR & autism

My daughter is mentally retarded, has autism, ADHD, and more recently has been diagnosed with Intermittent Explosive disorder. She is 10 and her level of MR is severe so she is unable to tell me how she feels. She has always been aggressive towards herself and others. She has been on risperidone for many years. Recently we have tried other drugs and her symptoms of aggression have increased. She is currently on Strattera, serequel, and hydroxizine (to help her sleep). She has only been on the serequel 2 days and it is not helping. The risperidone was stopped immediately because of weight gain. I need some suggestions on what we can do. HELP! I am tired of getting beat up, and I especially feel very bad for her because she cannot communicate with me how she is feeling. I feel like maybe we should go back to the risperidone even though she gains weight and even though she was still aggressive. It wasn't as bad as it is now. Our quality of life is getting worse as she gets older. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi I agree with what the doctor has said, go back to your daughter's doctor.  our daughter sounds exactly like my son Glen as he was growing up.  I'm sorry to say things didn't get any better they only got worse hence why I had to sadly place him in a care home because of severe aggression as he got older and stronger.  I wouldn't want this to happen to you, so hopefuly going back to your doctor and explaining what's going on will help.  Medication isn't always the answer.  It is not always easy getting the right drugs for the autistic person.  Therapy is often the better option.  Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on once you've seen the doctor. Hi!
I am really sorry to hear about your daughter. While yes, weight gain appears to lesser of the problems she is facing, I cannot suggest whether going back to the drug risperidone will help or not. What I can suggest is that in cases with ADHD, explosive disorders and autism   it is often helpful to seek therapy. Along with drugs individual therapy often helps deal with thoughts and emotions. I suggest you talk to your daughter's doctor and find out other options available. Take care!
