My Autistic Son Wants To Be A Girl

My son was diagnosed with full Autistic Spectrum Disorder in 2011, he's quite high functioning but on the grand scheme of things he's different to others. He has compulssive worrying and OCD and spends pretty much all his time worrying. He is 19 years old but is more like he's eight years old and he still watches children's shows and plays with his toys.

For a while now my son has wanted to be a girl, to which I have been fully supportive. I thought it might be a phase but on the internet he looks up girl clothes, tops, knickers, etc on Amazon and bookmarks them. He also writes word documents about his future as a singing woman, calling himself different names like Sarah and Rebecca. Once or twice now I've caught him wearing my clothes, I've never said anything as I know he would be upset if he knew I saw him wearing my clothes. He's worn my bras and knickers and my dresses, again, it doesn't bother me as he's a very special person and just takes a while to understand.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has any other similar experiences regarding this? I wonder if I should take him to the doctors, or if I should sit down and talk to him a bit more in detail. The problem is he doesn't like talking about personal things, so though I'm willing to listen, he will never speak about how he feels.

I'd be really grateful for any help regarding this matter.

Many thanks!
