Recognizing signs in a preschooler

Recognizing signs in a preschooler

I am posting for my sister, seeing she does not have a computer, and asked me if I could look up some information for her on the internet. Her teachers and her, (and I) suspect that my 4 year old nephew may be exhibiting some signs of autism. I recognized some signs when taking a CNA class and reading a chapter in my book that covered mentally handicapped children. Anyhow, I recognized some signs myself and had a discussion with my sister, and she agrees that she's seeing some things too. Now his teachers are starting to, and so the ball is rolling now at least to get some tests done.
I can't remember the site I visited, but my sister would like for me to get some information on signs of autism. They seem to have it for babies, recognizing signs in them, but I would like to really look up something basic we can understand, and learn about in preschool children. I know she has some questions, I'm going to invite her to post on this forum as well. She is not here at the moment cause she is a single parent and works alot. But I know one of her questions was is that the teacher says he covers his ears alot. Well, he has had alot of ear infections and has had tubes placed in his ears about 1, 2 years ago? But there are other things that make them wonder.
Anyhow, sorry to really rattle on here, but is there a site or 2 that would go more in depth as to recognizing autism signs in a preschool child that may have a forum or a number in which for her to call? I would, SHE would, really appreciate that.
                    Sincerely,
The Loving Aunty Of Her Little Teddy Bear   ;)

Here's some links to get you started. You can print off pages you find interesting:

This one has a good list. I think you'll find the list helpful to print off:

Symptoms of autism:  delays in speech and language, delays in social skills, odd or restricted interests and behavior.  If your sister suspects autism and/or has other concerns, she should contact her local school district and request an evaluation for special education services.  Your nephew may be eligible for special education services through an early intervention or preschool program for children with special needs.  Contacting the school district is your sister's first step in getting help for her son.
