still waiting for diagnosis?

My eldest son is 10 yrs old and i have struggled with his behaviour since he was 3 yrs old. I have been to behavioural therapy seen various proffesionals who have talked about adhd or autism or both?? but noone has actually given me a diagnosis.
His schooling is now suffering as although he is a very bright child he suffers from distraction and impulsivness which keeps getting him in trouble but the teachers are finding it hard as they cant treat him properly as he doesn mean to do it.
They have now said they need a diagnosis to be able to work with him properly. I have had the doctor refer him but i am not sure how long this will take and this is his last year at primary school. How long do i leave it before i start pushing it even more??

Hello, I have a 10 year old with autism who was diagnosed at the age of two. I would say push it. You know something is going on and getting a diagnosis in my opinion will only help and aide him into receiving more therapy and treatment. Im not sure about your state but my son was diagnosed through the school system by an autism specialist with a phd degree. You may want to check that out to see if the state can offer any assistance that way. Then he can get an iep and get help at school.
