My son is having surgery on Tues. the problem is, about a month ago, we took him for the surgery and got as far as him being put under anesthesia. The Drs then decided to postpone the surgery due a question had. Now, he has to have the surgery and I know he will be terrified, especially of the anethesia needle. Any suggestions to prepare him?
I hope that things went well, I wish that I had seen your post sooner. My DS is two and has had to have surgery twiceTwice-a-day and other medical procedures and he just freaks out. They have prescribed diazepam (generic for valium) to help him relax. Let us know how things went.
Do they also know that he could be hypersensitive to sensation including pain?
It is a situation I dread being in myself, for exactly the same reasons.
Can he swallow tablets?
Can you phone the hospital on Monday and explain the situation. Put them in the picture that there is a good chance that he may need to physically restrained and that you and your child would be very distressed by that. You could phone his paediatrician (or someone who knows him well) for them to speak with the hospital directly.
Ask them what the options are. You can't be the first in this situation. I don't know if they can give him some gas first, or some tablets to knock him out.
Please post back with what happens, because I'd be interested to know what the options are.
