Daughter had cdiff other problems

by ldhuff, Oct 23, 2009 01:27PM
My 14 yr old daughter had a severe case of c-diff and was hospitalized for 5 days.  Her cousin (22) has Crohn's.  The GI doc said it is possible that my daughter may develop IBD but doesn't think she has it now based on a normal SED (?) rate and other blood tests.  She has experienced severe joint pain/chest pain off and on since she has been ill. She has experienced intermittent pain in knee, hips, ankle, shoulders, elbows, chest, and currently in wrists.  The pain/swelling is worse in the evenings and restricts her movement.  Another strange symptom is that she experiences eye "spasms" from time to time.  Her colitis is much better and returning to normal.  Prior to the hospitalization she had a severe absess (abscess) on her spine that had to be lanced and a stye that got very infected and required antibiotics.  She seems to be having trouble fighting infections.  The GI has referred us back to the pediatrician who I think will refer us to a rheumatologist.  I just wonder if these combinations of symptoms trigger any other thoughts.  Thanks for the input.

For beginners, the eye spasms is probably due to a calcium deficiency which is caused from low vit D.  Her doctor should want to do some testing to see if this is the case.

Many of the symptoms you desribed could be caused from fibromyalgia, lupus, lymes, and chronic fatigue.

The rhematologist will probably check her ANA and CBC for starters.  I encourage her to spend some time in the sun prior to being tested.  If she has lupus, the sun exposure will cause the ANA to be elvated.  If not, it won't affect the level.

Praying for you little girl and for you too as I know how hard it is to see your little children suffer.
