Hypermobility linked to autoimmune disorder?

I'm 27 years old and have lived my entire life with hypermobility. I've suffered several dislocations since my childhood and am still having trouble with joint instability and severe dislocations. My doctor recently voiced a concern that I may have some type of autoimmune disorder that could be causing my hypermobility but he did not give me a name. He noticed that I have several autoimmune disorders floating around my family and thought there could be some connection. He has discussed a referral to have me tested but hasn't taken the step toward getting the referral put in. I am very curious now, however, what disorder he could have been talking about and have been unable to find the answer through online research. My endocrinologist has also tentatively diagnosed me with Hashimoto disease after having been diagnosed with Graves disease as a child. Does anyone know what autoimmune disorders can cause hypermobility? I would love to know if there really could be a link between that and my constant injuries, also if there is treatment for whatever it is that could help lessen my propensity toward dislocation injuries. I'm really quite frustrated with being known as the klutz and having the nickname "boom." So if there is a shining light of hope that I can not only end this cycle but also have a shot at finally healing from some of the injuries caused by hypermobility I would be so happy to know. If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated. I ask here rather than at my doctor's because it takes a month or more to get any type of appointment and my curiosity is burning. Thanks!

Hi...hypermobility is a connective tissue disorder Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome as the above poster mentioned and there is a group here on MedHelp- http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Ehlers-Danlos-Syndrome/show/417?controller=forums&action=show&id=417&camp=msc

The fact u also have an autoimmune issue like Hashimoto's could just be u have 2 different issues going on at once....I have Ehlers-Danlos and Hashimoto's as well, but I also have Chiari malformation and we r prone to both auto immune and connective tissue disorders.....

The disorder he was most likely referring to is Ehler Danlos.  It is a disorder of connective tissue.
