Hypertension and Diabetes

I had a total thyoidectomy is 2000.  My condition is not controlled on hormone replacement therapy. My meds need to be readjusted constantly. I was diagnosed with Diabetes this past summer.  Could my hypothyroidism cause diabetes? And why or why not?

Do not know if there is a relationship between the two conditions but it is my understanding that type 2 diabetes can be associated with obesity.  If that is the case you might want to look at a diet change.  Eating a diet mainly of fruits and vegetable could the answer.
