Is Sciatica considered as an autoimmune disorder?

Hello
I am new here.
4 Years ago I was diagnosed with RA and started a long term medications therapy. Which helped the disease but made me an easy all-kinds-of other diseases "catcher".
19 months ago I had C6 corpectomy. They told me that the spinal stenosis I had suffered from is unrelated to the RA.

10 months ago I had pains in the hip joint.
Than I had pains in my upper back (around D8).
Very slowly with LOTS of all kinds of treatments including medicines these pains are fading except pains cause (probably) by the sciatic nerve.

About the same time I got fed up of becoming ill too often and started seeing an ND who made me change my diet.
This helped me reduce my medicines intake (very very slowly !!! do not take it as a recommendation. I am not an health provider).

Since the sciatica pains refuse to be totally gone, and since I am still reducing my RA meds I am asking: Is Sciatica considered as an autoimmune disorder?

Thank you for you responses.

Dana

Thank you VERY MUCH for your response.

I needed to know it because my rheumy claims that the pains I am having are 'cause I'm lowering my meds and following a "guru's" advice re changing food intake.

I don't know if I could proceed with lowering the meds AND keeping a regular diet but, my rheumi (which is a good MD & a nice guy and I do like his scientific attitude BUT I don't like to be dependant on meds for the rest of my life).

I have tried ALSO acupuncture (may had it's effect I cannot spot it though) and/or massage therapy - I love getting massage; it relaxes. Does it cure? I don't know.

Thanks
D.

Hi Dana,

Sciatica isn't considered to be an autoimmune disorder. If I remember right, they say that sciatica is caused by compression of nerve roots that affect the sciatic nerve.

Good luck with your treatment. Remember if your treatment isn't working for you, there are other options such as acupuncture and/or massage therapy.

Best,
