May not be the right forum however, jsut a question

I have been diagnosed with IBS. irratable bowel disease.

They say this is a sensitive colon. I have had colonoscopy to test for colitis/ crohn's disease. All came back normal. I have been prone to polys and have had several removed from colon. I also have Barrett's esaphagus. My father when he was a child almost died from allergies. apparently his immune system was weak.

This IBS as they call it has stiffled my life. I have tried eating all i can tolerate, and have done my research. What i can eat is minimalb Some say that IBS is is just a name for something they cannot find wrong. I am going in tomorrow to see a doctor for an anti-depressant. I need to be able to cope better than i am...even if it is for short term use.

My Barret's is ok for now..go back in 2 years for recheck.  All the symptoms i have mimic crone's.... nut i do not have that. Could their be and underlying immune disorder?

any reply would be helpful
thank you,

I too, have IBS and have for several years. I have my ups and downs with it.
I can tell you what I do notice is that stress certainly initiates an aweful episode of my IBS.  As far as someone telling you that IBS is just a "waste - can"  dx does not have all their facts straight.

I have also found that doing light excercising such as walking, water excercises, and stationary (recumbant) bike, seems to help out. Of course with it being summer I can not tolerate the heat so I go to the gym which has a pool. Even just getting on the floor while you are watching television you can do some leg lifts.

Just a thought. Hope you get some relief.

If your stools are much more urgent and looser after eating, tend to be very bile like look up Habba Syndrome, could fit.  Oh!  Just read the above post by Sheilathatsme, yest Habba Syndrome is related to the gallbladder.  It's a fairly new discovery, some GI docs haven't even heard of it.  Go into an appointment educated.  If they've never heard of it, see what they want to test, possibly do those tests.  if that doc can't figure it out, go to one who is familiar with Habba Syndrome.

I've a huge advocate for Celaic testing.  Don't think you have Celiac Disease because blunting of your small intestinal villa would have been noted when they did a biposy to check for Chron's Disease.  Ask for a copy of your pathology report.  If they saw slight villli abnormalities, but didn't find Chrons, go to your Primary Care Doc and ask that they run a TTG (tissue transglutaminase), EMA (endomysial antibody) and a total IgA.

Good luck!  Hope you feel better

Have you had your Gallbladder Checked? Often when the Gallbladder first starts malfunctioning. It may over produce bile and then not produce enough. Too much bile, can cause diarrhea. If your Gallbladder has been removed that can also be a problem-with the gallbladder gone there is nothing to control the flow of bile and if your Liver is like mine, it over produces bile to the point that I've actually developed Ulcerative Colitis. Changes in bowel habits are usually an indication that something somewhere is misbehaving. Get that Gallbladder Checked ASAP!

Oh yeah, some symptoms of Gallbladder problems are-acid reflux, pain below the right breast that can be severe, pain through to the back on right side, change in bowel habits, and I'm sure there's a host of other complaints. Get checked, be sure.

Well, you could have Crohns.  I am not a doctor.  Just a frustrated patient, lol.  My husband was diagnosed with Crohn's disease.  He could not tolerate the meds and stopped seeing his doctor until 2 years later when it got unbearable again.  They repeated the colonoscopy and said that he didn't have crohns.  It was the same GI, he said he was wrong the first time.

He was and idiot.  It just wasn't very active at that time.  He started using marijuana for flare ups and it has worked better than any steriod they've given him.

I'm sorry they are not helping you.  It is so sad when people hurt but no one listens.  I have other diseases so I can empathize.  If you are not happy with your treatment, see a new doctor.  I went to 11 doctors before I got my first diagnosis.  And NOW all my old doctors believe me.

Good luck
