Need help with my vitamin d problem

I had beed to the doctors countless times with horrible pain in my back. Never did he give me any painkillers just told me to rest an gave me some time off work and told me to take paracetamol (yeah cause that works). but the pain has spread to my arms and legs, mainly wrists and knee. The doctor did a blood test an noticed my vitamin d was very low at 17.  He gave me 20k tablets and had to take 5 a day for 3 days. Hes sending me for an x-ray on my knee as he suspects a hair line fracture. I have broken my big toe, and still no pain killers im in agony i still to go to work and look after my 4 yr old, just put on a brave face but behind close doors im crying in pain, This cant be right and now ive found out it could take upto 1yr to improve. I wake up in the night in pain im actually crying in my sleep because of it i need help but why wont the doctor give me any pain relief? he said he will look at my back once my levels are back to nomal i cant wait that long.

Sorry that your doc isn't really treating your pain. The D3 should help while you are getting the rest of the problem sorted out. I would hope that D3 should be available over the counter in the UK also.

All the best,

i live in the uk so dont pay for my doctor its on the nhs. I may go back to doctors again and see another one an try and get some pain relief. i just dont understand why hes so laid back. i told him my knee and back were gettin worse an he just said "well we will see to that after we have done this" Not being funny but obviously its done some damage otherwise my toe would not be broken an knee fractured. i think i need a second opinion. i just need somethin to help with the pain while my body repairs.
Thankyou for replying

Hello, I found out all 4 people in my family were D3 deficient and I did a lot of reading on the site listed below.
I am not sure what the doc gave you for D, but it sounds like D2 which need to be converted to D3 by the body.
It is easier to just take the D3 which is over the counter and cheap at Costco, Walmart, Walgreens etc. The regular dose is 5,000 IU a day. My doc started me at 6,000 IU and rechecked my D3 levels in 6 months. It was higher but not in the "optimal zone" of between 50 and 70ml. It is important to get your levels checked at least 2 times a year, but you can vary the dose needed as long as you know what your level is at.

Costo has a 5,000 IU pill and I take 2 of those daily. My D3 level was at 67 ml last time it was checked. I do have several medical issues so I think I needed more than the normal person.  I had osteopenia and now that is gone. I also have been sick less often and other medical issues have improved. I have been on D3 for at least 4 years. It does take time to build up in the body.  I was  lucky my doc is also into holistic and checked my D3 levels.

There are some co-factors too like you need magnesium, and a small amount of vitamin K. Your body needs these to absorb the D3, more info about those co-factors at the web-site of www.vitamindcouncil.org

The site has lots of good info for free, they do have lots of articles for you to read. Bottom line D3 is very important, and it can help in many different medical areas, especially bone pain.

Just my opinion, but any doc who thinks it's OK for you to be in chronic pain is one I would drop. See someone else. You are the one paying the bill, and trying to live with the pain.

Hope this is helpful
Good luck,
Elbamom
