Treating the cause and not the symptoms.

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I posted after my Endocrinologist rejected my symptoms as a "mood disorder!" Sent me into a very angry place for a while, but I've had time to rethink my strategy. I am in the midst of deciding on either an integrated practitioner or a GP/Specialist who has the reputation for going outside the "normal range" kind of thinking.
In the meantime, I have gone off all the vitamins etc that I've been put on to band aid my symptoms rather than find the cause. Dropped the daily VitB12 sublingual tabs, 3000iu VitD, the selenium and the Cyklokapron tablets that murdered my head for three days every month. The intense headache these tablets gave me to stop the haemorrhage of a period each month was just disgusting. I want someone to look at the cause of these symptoms. I want the "new" doctor to see me in the raw. Unadulterated with tablets. Albeit very tired and lethargic. I want them to ask why??? Why has my cycle become so severe in the past twelve months that I am anaemic to the point of transfusion, why does my Vit D drop to 30-40 without supplementation. Why does my skin look like I've been roasting on the beach and now my hair is so dry and brittle it is disgusting to touch. And most recently, why have I now got a large fatty lump on the base of my neck/back area and have put on twelve pound in a month. But wait, your morning cortisol is fine and your TSH is 1.5!!! There's nothing wrong with you!!! Go drink more coffee to stop your BP dropping and have a happy life!!! Boy they are gonna get theirs!!!

Regards,
Debra.

I am so happy that someone has finally listened and acted. Dr Lewis is astounded that I have managed to keep getting up each day let alone work....when I told him that the neurologist said I was perfectly healthy but had a "mood disorder", he laughed and said he would have a anger management problem if he was me. Lol.

So, tell me what you think of results and treatment.

Hope you had a great family holiday in Crete and didn't succumb to the heat wave???

Regards,
Debra.

Hi Debra.

I'm so sorry to read about your current suffering, but I'm glad about you seeing this new Integrative Medicine Doctor. He's might be the one holding the light at the end of the very dark tunnel!

Your immune system has been definitely compromised, thus leaving you more vulnerable to CMV re-activation, Strep throat infection (at present) and other threats.
A thorough exploration of underlying factors linked to this is necessary to my opinion, and it should comprise a big part of the overall treatment strategy.

Presently, I'm in Crete with my wife & daughter, in a middle of a heat wave.
Thank god for a/c!
I'm very appreciative of our good health and wellness, which gives us the opportunity to travel and do the things we enjoy doing.

My hope is, that you also return to a better state of health and wellness,
so you too can carry on with your life, the way you desire.

Keep me posted with how things are progressing.

Blessings.
Niko

Hey Niko,

Thought I'd drop u a line and update you of my progress. Well, I finally found a very reputable Integrative Medical Practice. Had my first consult with Dr last Friday and was so impressed with his thoroughness. I filled out a questionnaire before going and started to feel positive then as the questions about symptoms were so familiar. Anyway, he ordered 19 different blood tests and a urinalysis and was understanding and compassionate about my ordeal. Couldn't have been treated better.
My pancreas has been really upset lately so I have been extremely nauseous and not eating much at all. Like a rehearsed play, within 5 minutes of sitting down with him I had to run and be sick!!
Will be so interesting to meet with him again next week for results. He does agree with me that the CMV I had 20 years ago is re-activating at will and knocking my organs about. He ordered a CMV serology and Candida Antibody work up to find out.
I have just now returned from the emergency dept. at our local hospital with a script for antibiotics and analgesia for a very severe case of Strepp throat once again. My neck is so stiff, throat that sore I can hardly swallow saliva let alone tablets, and my head is about to explode. I'm wasting my life away being sick.
Fingers crossed for some light at the end of so very dark tunnel.
Hope you're well Niko,

Debra.

Absolutely Niko,

My Intrinsic Factor is shot to pieces from VSG surgery.
You're probably right and I'm probably just being stubborn at my own expense.
If I can be honest for one minute Niko?
Bit worried about the fact that everyone is still posting even after being diagnosed! Does this mean even when they suss out the cause and treat it, it's still gonna be frustratingly hard going? I would like to think the treatment is better than the condition bug after reading a lot of the posts, I'm not convinced!!!

Mmm, interesting!!!

Take care,

Debra.

Hey Debra.

Obesity may have not been the original cause for low D, however, it is now a contributing factor as vitamin D is taken up by fat cells.

Also, there are Vitamin D receptors in the stomach which help make intrinsic factor ( which binds to B12 and helps to absorb it.)
I wouldn't chance it at this point. Just my opinion.

Back to the FIFA madness!

And please call me Niko!
We're on a first name basis, right Debra?

Best wishes.
Niko

Hey there Lightseeker,

Thanks for your reply. I am overweight now, but wasn't when discovered to be low in VitD. I had my Gastric Sleeve done in 2011 and this leads to VitB12 deficiency in many cases. I had a pap done last April and it was all clear thankfully. I am still to the day regular with my cycle but agree with you that I would be perimenopausal and wonder why I have never been tested for Oestrogen levels etc when it is very obvious age-wise that I would be in that risk group. Yes, the Cyklokapron is a disgusting drug that makes you feel dreadful. I am currently not taking it and coping with horrendous haemorrhaging rather than the dehydration-like headaches it gives. I am going to tell my so called doctors the truth about their lack of help and hopefully make at least one think about what their failure to act attitude really does to a person.

Get back to the FIFA madness and thank you again for your help,

Take care,

Debra.

Hi Debra.

I'm taking a small break from watching the FIFA world cup games and thought to respond to your post.

Well, first my opinion is that cutting out your B12 and D is risky.
The reason being is that you ARE deficient (1) and without adequate supplementation due to underlying issues (2) such as Menorrhagia, vitamin D resistance -due to a number of possible factors (most likely is obesity if you are 20% over your ideal weight) and selenium ? not sure.

Cyklokapron tablets is  the obvious one to eliminate, as your underlying issue- I suspect you are perimenopausal- has NOT been verified, so just treating a symptom in this case is not recommended and also it should not be compared to supplementing for a known ESSENTIAL deficiency!

You will benefit from looking into estrogen dominance as a cause, which could be easily corrected by supplementing transdermally with a 2% NATURAL Progesterone cream, starting with 2-3 times daily, about half teaspoon each time, rubbing it on smooth parts of your body, 3 weeks before your period and stop when your period starts.

Have you had a PAP test within the last 12 months?
If not, you should to rule out other issues.

Please read my previous recent replies here in the A/I Community for proper thyroid testing info.

Hope it helps and please don't get mad, get even, lol!
Tell your "bleep" doctors how you really feel and FIRE them, as I take it you will not go back, anyway!!!

If I know a thing or two about health matters, I owe it to the dysfunctional
so-called "health care" system of ours, which gave me the motivation to immerse myself in REAL health care education and find true answers
for myself and many others, in many fields, specially involving complex cases, where the medical system has a dismal record!!!

I hope you find a good OPEN minded Health Care Professional to help you.
Meanwhile you're welcome to ask me any questions you may have anytime!

Wishing you well.
