Anibodies do not show on blood tests, while your conditon is in an inactive
phase.
Lisa it sounds that you have an underlying low grade infectious condition, associated with your mcta
Rheumatologists are not trained to investigate this,
Their work is limited at a dx and medication to manage it, not finding, treating or eliminating the causes.
In your case, should it be something like a pathogenic mycoplasma,
with proper treatment and a strong immune system you can experience
substantial improvement, remission or cure.
Do a search here for Dr. Garth Nicolson, the leading expert in this field,
who also happens to be a Medhelp friend and regular contributor here.

Cheers!

hi, I had similar symptoms for 6 years before something finally showed up on a test. Like you, I went to Dr after Dr. and they treated me like a hypochondriac or were at a loss. I was misdiagnosed several times, but now am told I have mixed connective tissue disease. Ana antibodies finally showed up on a test after years of being tested for this. I'm not saying that's what you have, but it could be. Taking plaquenal has helped a lot with reducing my symptoms so I can sleep some. I had fevers all night & dry eyes/mouth, pain, and a persistent skin rash that improved w this treatment. Good luck I know it can be tough. Just dignore it when they don't understand & keep trying. It really helps to document everything as it happens & show it to a Dr. They respect that more if you can show them dates & a pattern. A rheumatologist is the kind of Dr to see for this kind of thing. Hang in there

Hi samangel77 and welcome to the forum.

Caryopteris is right to suspect Celiac, anemia, thyroid and deficiencies.
Check tissue magnesium levels, vitamin B12 and D levels.
You may also have high tartaric acid levels (a known muscle toxin)
Apple cider vinegar-raw, organic  and unfiltered- contains malic acid, so if you can take 2 tablespoons daily, this will correct the tartaric acid issue.
Try a gluten free, wheat free, low carb as fast test for a week if you can.
Candida has to be ruled out as well.
Read some of my previous replies in this section for a self-test.

There are other possibilities, but these are easy to rule out or correct before you investigate anything more complex.

Please keep us posted.

Did you get tested for Celiac disease?  anemia?  thyroid function?

It sounds like you are vitamin and mineral deficient and out of condition.  You need to eat more fruits and vegetables and lean meats, fish, poultry.  Start a walking program.  Get some sunshine.  Start lifting light weights very carefully to build your muscles and regain some strength and stamina.
