odd odors and graves disease

Hello, A little back ground:  I am a 63 year old female. I was diagnosed with Graves disease in 1994. Had two radiation treatments 6 weeks apart to kill thyroid. Am taking 112mg of Synthroid daily. I have been very healthy. I have always been active, tennis, walking, exercise classes, etc. Pretty much kept up a good diet with lots of fruits & veggies. This past year I was diagnosed with pre diabetes and high blood pressure.

In the last few months, I have been experiencing an odd odor of stale smoke or something like smoldering paper burning. It is getting worse, to the point of nausea and nervousness.  Also, I cannot stand the smell of raw meat, or stand the smell of it being cooked. My husband thinks I'm nuts. I am really having a hard time with this, tearful almost daily because I don't know what is wrong with me. Any ideas

I totally know what you mean.  I have lupus and when I am on Prednisone I cannot stand the smell of any kind of fish.  I can't eat it or smell it cooking and I can't even walk in that area of the store.  Maybe the synthroid or some other medication you are on is causing it?  I have the same book want2 has and it does have good suggestions for foods to eat for certain diseases but I don't think that will help your problem with the smell making you sick.  Also, have you thought about getting on a natural like Armour Thyroid?  It is much ore like what our bodies make.  Did you have Graves disease is an autoimmune disease that affects your thyroid as we know.  Do you have a positive ANA now that you have had the radiation?
God Bless

When I look up Graves disease in my book "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" it states it is Hyperthyroidism which is when the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone, resulting in an overactive metabolic state.  One of the sympthoms is increased perspiration.  It recommends eating foods like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, mustard greens, peaches, pears rutabagas, soybeans, spinach and turnips which help to suppress thyroid hormone production. It also recommends avoiding dairy products for at least 3 months.  Also avoid stimulants, coffee, tea, nicotine, and soft drinks.  It gives a list of supplements such as vitamin C which are helpful in treating the disease.  You might want to get a book on Nutritional Healing and try some of the things it recommends.  You may be eating a healthy diet but it may not be the diet which can deal the best with this disease.  The only way to find out is to read about what is recommended and try different things until you find out what works best for you.  Good Luck.
