With the Beta Blockers I began experiencing GERD.  This was not reduced even when I was on the highest dose of Nexium twice a day.  The Nexium caused be to experience extreme pain in my muscles and joints.  I also was tired most of the time from the Beta Blockers.

Since going off the Beta Blockers my pain and GERD have pretty much gone away.  I still experience the tremors.  I have found ways to limit the problems.  When doing delicate work or drinking from a glass I will try to support the one hand with the other.  Writing in front of people can be difficult also because I am afraid I will start shaking which leads to stress so then of course my tremors worsen. Getting plenty of sleep helps.  When I begin going through a period of time when the tremors are more noticable it is usually from lack of sleep.

What helped me was searching the internet about it (under essential tremor or benign familial tremor) and finding others that deal with it and the tricks they use to reduce the noticableness of the tremor (Some find wearing a watch will help, the added weight stabilizes the hand).  Like I said when others notice it increases the stress that will increase the tremor.

I have had tremors in my hands since I was a teenager.  I was diognosed with Benign Familial Tremors.  This can affect other areas of the body also.  I would look into that.  Sleep deprivation and stress makes them worse.  Beta Blockers can help but the side-effects I experienced wasnt worth it.

Amalgams are ban in Sweden, Norway and Denmark.  One major sympthom of mercury poisoning is tremors.  Smoking cigarettes with mercury contaminated hands may be an important part of exposure.  In a study in Brazil 62% of dental workers had urine mercury levels over 10 mg/L and indication of mild to moderate mercury poisoning.  How much mercury it takes to make you sick is different with all of us.  It all depends on how well your body deals with this poison.  When you accumulate enough of this poison in your body you get the various diseases (MS, ALS, Parkinson, Altimers and many others).  Some people can have their urine tested and they see nothing even though they have the sympthoms of mercury poisoning.  That is because the mercury does not stay in the blood but travels to the organs in the body and is stored there.  A true test for mercury in the body is done by using DMSA which is a chealor to mercury.  DMSA released the mercury from the organs and it then can be seen in the urine.  Vitamin C is very important in chelation of mercury.  If I thought I had mercury poisoning I would get on Vitamin C immediately and take as much as I could tolerate.  Some people have some of the neurological diseases and do not have amalgam fillings.  There are other ways of getting mercury other than amalgam fillings.  We have contaminate our oceans so the fish we eat are full of mercury and many other bad things (heavy metals, drugs, pesticides.....).  We shoot the mercury in our arms when we get vaccination.  We have polluted our air more so in the dentist office.  When we mix together all the transfats, artifical sweetners, steriods and antibiotics we shoot into our animals, pesticides we use on our produce and put these things in our bodies it is a wonder we are still alive.  The only hope we have is to eat as healthy as we can to give our body the nutrients it needs to get rid of these poisons and there are many out there.

I'm not sure where he works, but mercury hasn't been used for many years in major parts of the world (besides US perhaps), and seeing how he is 24, I doubt he has had much exposure... always a possibility if this isn't the case.

Magnesium is a mineral that we are often deficient in.  The recommended dosage is 600mg magnesium to 1200 mg of calcium.  The only problem w/ magnesium is it can loosen the stools.  Some people need help in that area and is a welcomed side affect.

The mercury poison is a real possibility that I had not thought of.  You might want to look into that a little more.

If you are a dentist check out the sympthoms for mercury poisoning.  Goggle Dr. Huggins and he will explain to you what is going on.  If you are working in an office which deals in amalgam fillings the air is full of the mercury fumes.  You keep playing around with mercury and you are going to see more and more symthoms that you can't explain.  You ever heard of MS, ALS, Parkinsons are many other neurological diseases which they can't explain as to the cause.  The ADA will tell you that these disease can't be proven to be mercury related but many people who have their amalgams removed get better.  The proof is not going to exist because the ADA makes too much money putting this poison in peoples mouth to let the truth come out in this country.  Other countries have realize what mercury can do and have ban amalgam fillings.    The Mad Hatters of London found out what working with mercury can do to your nervous system.  Tom McQuire DDS has a book which tells you the supplements you  need to take to get the mercury out of the body but if I were you I would become a mercury free dentist.  The book worked for me along with seeing mercury free dentist and getting the mercury out of my mouth.  Get his book and start taking his recommend supplements and it may help.  The only real help is to get away from the soarce of mercury.  The evidence its clear that mercury is toxic to the nervous system and believing what the ADA tells you will only make you sick.  It may make you rich but along the way you should realize all the people you will be making ill putting this poison in their mouths.  When you ruin your health money means nothing.

You can probably find references on what magnesium does on a biochemical level online.   Its common to take magnesium supplements for shaking, spasm and tremours.   I personally use a formula from Natures Way...

I take it myself every day for just this (i have tremours when I try to sleep, but this helps).  The dosage can vary, check with your own MD if you are not certain.   For adults (in the US) the recommended dosage is 300-400mg / day.  The best way is always to get the proper amounts via a proper diet, but thats not always enough when there is a problem.   You may want to investigate when you are eating, and making sure you get good dense nutrients every day, cut all processed foods and get the all so needed EFAs (essential fatty acids).     Smokers aren't recommended to take a lot of betacarotene supplements (as it may increase risk factors).    Taking a B complex is also not a bad thing...:D

As a health professional I'm surprised you are smoking.  I can only assume you are aware of how many lethal toxins you are putting in your body every day.    Stop smoking.

As for shaking and tremours...can be many causes, but magnesium supplements can help.
