sick for ten months need help understanding ANA panel results?

I am a 30 year old mother of 3 :) I have been sick for ten months, My doctors are testing just about everything but are currently focused on auto immune conditions. before 4/2012 I had PCOS and high blood pressure. Overall pretty healthy. I wieghed 190lbs but was having a hard time loosing weight (pcos) I ate very healthy (still do) and worked out 3-4 days a week. Until April 2012. Since april I have had the following symptoms, 75lb unintened weight loss (i am 115 now), Reactive hypoglcemia, random hyperglycemia, Proximial hypotension very low or very high,vitamin B12 defeciency, extreme hair loss, kidney stones, nausea, lack of apetite, urinary problems, (cant empty completely, slow stream, slow start dribble) flank pain, neck pain and stiffness lasts for days (base of skull), episodes of hip and shoulder pain, completely unable to tolerate cold, hands and feet turn white, Numbness tingling (all toes but my big toe?), itchy skin, sores come and go on skin, dyshydrotic excema, weakness, muscle loss, Tremors. I have had a bizzillion tests, scans, biopsys etc. they consistantly show things being off but not specific to the cause. Never been so sick in my life. I had an ANA panel done and I have some positive but I do not know what they mean. I also had a spinal tep today but dont have the results back. Can anyone tell me what these positive antibodies mean at all? thank you I dont want to wait till monday!

Hi JFriskie and welcome to the forum.

Sorry about all your suffering.
I can understand the stress a situation like yours- of not knowing
what  is causing al lthis- can bring.

ANA  Positive.      Titers Up to 1:80 are considered negative.
This  test is important in interpreting results from other relative
tests for diagnostic investigation.
Independantly these results are not very useful, therefore are used in
conjuction with other tests and clinical criteria, before a firm diagnosis can be made., which in many cases takes significant time and in other cases
no diagnosis can be made, as results are inconclusive.( Living in Limbo!)

Scl-70 Ab Quant - Equivicol: Open to more than one interpretation; ambiguous.Uncertain or questionable in nature.

RNP ab
Interpretation
A positive result for RNP antibodies is consistent with a connective tissue disease. Although strongly associated with connective tissue diseases, RNP antibodies are not considered a "marker" for any particular disease except in the following situation: when found in isolation (ie, dsDNA antibodies and Sm antibodies are not detectable), a positive result for RNP antibodies is consistent with the diagnosis of mixed connective tissue disease.
Cautions
Testing for RNP antibodies is not useful in patients without demonstrable antinuclear antibodies.
Reference Values
or =1.0 U (positive)
Reference values apply to all ages.

Reference Values
or =1.0 U (positive)
Reference values apply to all ages.

Sm Ab                        positive
Interpretation
A positive result for anti-Sm antibodies is consistent with a diagnosis of lupus erythematosus.
Cautions
Testing for Sm antibodies is not useful in patients without demonstrable antinuclear antibodies.

Possible Conventional medical suspicion: SLE (lupus), scleroderma,
progressive systemic sclerosis, other related connective tissue disease.

From a Natural/ Holistic medicine perspective: A systemic condition, caused by an underlying pathogenic infectious condition-very difficult to detect-
atcivated by factors which impact the immune system negatively, such as stress ,trauma, injuries, surgeries, other infections etc.

For more details, visit  www.immed.org or do a search here in MedHelp for Dr.Garth Nicolson, an expert in this field (underlying pathogenic infections).
Should it be the case indeed, these conditions are fully treatable with the right treatment and a non-compromised immune system..
(Moderator, please allow this link as it is of great importance, for members to have these  suspected infectious conditions ruled out or treated).

There may be other possibilities, like molecular mimicry and inflammatory processes involved as well.

Wishing you well.
