Hashimoto's hypothyroidism

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease about 1 year ago.  My entire body hurts much of the time and I have no energy at all!  I feel puffy and it really shows in my face so I decided to try and lose some weight.  Ugh! I went on that 17 day diet and in 4 days lost 8 lbs. and within a month I lost a total of 15 lbs. Obviously this was all water weight! I looked so much better but was feeling VERY sickly.  I've continued the diet but can't lose even one more pound.  With all the healthy produce I've been consuming I should be feeling great!  I started researching more on hypothyroid disease and foods and came across some information on foods that should be avoided.  I was drinking a soy all fruit smoothie for breakfast for around a month only to find out that all soy products should be avoided!  Also, broccoli, cabbage, sweet potatoes, lima beans, brussel sprout, radishes, peanuts and the list goes on and on.  I guess these veggies all contain goitrogens which prevent thyroid medicine from being absorbed.  I've eliminated all of these veggies from my diet and finally I'm starting to feel a little better.  Has anyone else experienced anything like this?  If these foods are indeed bad for hypothyroid sufferers then why are we not told this when we are diagnosed?  My thyroid must have been swelling because it felt like I was being choked.  After eliminating these foods my neck isn't feeling so tight.

I also found this out on my own.  Strawberries are also one of the foods on this list.  It seems that these are all the fruits and veggies that I love to eat, and I have not stopped eating them.  I don't eat them in abundance, so maybe that's why, but I never noticed a difference.  I have never paid much attention to it, though, either.  Maybe I should.  I think we'd all benefit from keeping a food/symptom journal.  I think we'd all be surprised if we analyzed what we ate and how we felt.
