Hoshemotos

I was just diagnosed with Hoshemotos.  Im only 17 and my mom has it (who was adopted so we didnt know if I would genetically get it or not) and they just did blood tests and found it.  I havent experienced many symptoms yet but was told i will eventually....what should I expect?

Were the blood tests performed specifically to see if you had thyroid auto-antibodies? Have you not been feeling well?
If you have few symptoms now, it may take years to have them develop. I have no knowledge of anyone in my family having thyroid disease. I (might) carry the genetic predisposition for Hashimotos, but did not begin to have noticible symptoms until my late 40's. Even then, it took until this year (I am 55) to have an actual diagnosis made based on an elevated TSH level - and then the anti-TPO test. Ove the years my TSH level has always been in the normal range - but I can recall symptoms even WITH my TSH in the normal range...so! They should have testing the antibodies based on my symptoms of fatigue, dry skin, weight gain etc.
What are the symptoms you do have?
Your mom could also provide a clue what to expect : )
