Early Ultrasound

Hello Ladies,
i love in Canada, here we do not get an ultrasound until about 20 weeks along,  In March i had a horrible missed miscarriage, spent a month with 4 different doctors begging for an ultrasound because i felt like something was wrong.. i hhad doctors and nurses laugh in my face and call me a silly little girl.. my own dh was thinking i had gone nuts,, it was horrible in the end i finally found a doctor who would help me and as an end result i was right.. i should have been 12 weeks and baby stopped growing at 8 weeks.. so my question is , i really want an early ultrasound to put my own mind at ease,, so i know everything is going ok this time. do u think given my history a doctor will send me in for one,  also i just moved to a new town so i dont even have a doctor yet, so im gonna have to find one, then tell him what happened and hope he will help me out.. any advice.  it sounds silly but im 4 weeks now i just want some comfermation that everything is going ok. like at 7 or 8 weeks would be perfect... i simply cant go throu what i did before.

Hi!
I live in Canada too and all I had to do was request from my midwife for an u/s and she had no problem getting me one.  If you tell your Dr that you have no idea about your dates they HAVE to give you an u/s for dating reasons and the safety of your baby later on.  I have had 4 pregnancies and I have 2 boys.  This pregnancy I requested to have one early b/c of my miscarriage last time and they got me in at 8 weeks which is the most accurate time for dating.  I had early u/s for all of my pregnancies except the one I miscarried and I lost the baby at 9 1/2 wks but I was 12 wks when the u/s couldn't find a heartbeat. Try asking for one or just pretend that you're clueless about your last period and they can't deny you an u/s.  A little white lie for a big piece of sanity. Good luck!

waiting until your 7 or 8 weeks is good.  I don't know how Canada works but in the US after I had my missed miscarriage I interviewed dr's and midwifes.  In the process i found a midwife that was willing to do an ultrasound at all apts when we didn't hear the heartbeat, honestly that helped a lot the day of apt's but then the next day I would freak out again.

Some dr's can have old machines that they are willing to wheel into the room, that way they don't need to "bill" an insurance company for anything.

If you have the option of talking to a dr (or even asking questions about them to the dr's office) try that as you hunt for a new dr.  Good luck!
