Success on Clomid?

My dr. has written me a script to try clomid.  I was wondering if any of you know anyone that has gotten pg. from being on Clomid?  Those that are on it, have been on it or otherwise, what kind of side effects did you experience and would you recommend it?  I am worried about the side effects and dont know what I should do.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks!

I know... the doctor was really shocked that I was overstimulated on only 50 mg.  What is EPO? Whatever it is, I doubt I was on it b/c Clomid was the only thing for days 5-9.  My pain is finally gone.  The doctor called and said I could have concieved this cycle,.... can they tell from a follicle if an egg has dropped??

I would guess as long as you currently have insurance and if you don't plan on changing it anytime soon you'll be fine.  It's probably something about a pre-existing condition.  i was in the insurance gig a long time ago.  I thought the HIPAA laws changed that now?? But i could be wrong.

Maybe your BFP is just hiding out and the thought of having to use Clomid will be a distant worry :)

Fingers crossed for you hun!

they are coding it as "irregular cycles" not infertility.  As for the insurance, I don't even know if it covers the clomid. I guess I'll find out if I decide to go for it!

From what I was reading it was more about women who tried to get new ins. coverage while either pg, ttc on clomid, or after having the baby and if they conceived while being on clomid they weren't covered because of whatever reasons, i.e. multiples risk, cysts or other problems related to the use of clomid.  I am hoping that since I already have coverage that I'll be okay.

So I don't think I was spotting after all....LOL...nothing today and no pains....I am cd38.  WTH??

I was on Clomid 50mg CD 5-9.  I didn't experience any side effects other than bloating and O pain.  I got pregnant on the first cycle.  Good luck to you!

the NP i was going to kept on going on about how she will try to stick with diagnostics for pain but she couldn't be fraudulent... as though i was asking her to straight out be dishonest about the whole thing so insurance would cover it all. it was kina annoying they she mentioned it a few times when i didn't even ask her to be dishonest about anything.

PrincessJam - that is crazy that you overstimulated on 50mg!  Were you taking anything else, like EPO?

Dana - I didn't have any baseline before I started the Clomid, just the cyst check at the end of the cycle.  For whatever reason my insurance covered the Clomid . . . but I don't know why, they weren't supposed to.  All of my monitoring through the NP was covered as well, but I believe they coded it as diagnostic.

I've never heard of being denied insurance just for being on Clomid.

I haven't herd anything of being denied insurance coverage if you have been on clomid but i do know that my insurance wont cover anything to do with infertility. I know this sounds crazy but it was lucky that i was feeling so much pain from everything or my cervix would still be nearly blocked and my tube would still be blocked and less chance of getting pregnant because if there was no pain the insurance would not have covered any of the surgery.

I did hear that an insurance company has denied covering a 4 month old baby because he was in the 99% of his weight range. he was breast feed and very healthy... and they wouldn't cover him because of his weight. I would rather have insurance than no insurance but this is getting ridiculous!

so your insurance wont cover infertility at all either? that might be why she wont monitor you. My NP wanted to do an US and ferning if i was to try clomid with her. but as soon as the insurance would see the ferning im sure they would not want to pay for any of it.

as for CD5-9, i heard that 5-9 will give the maturing follies and extra boost right before Oing. not sure what the truth to this is though.  are you going to give it a try even if they cant monitor you because of insurance?

Yes ma'am! DH and I had to pay out of pocket for Clomid. What's funny is, Insurance paid for Provera and other meds but not Clomid.

Hi There,
This is my second cycle of clomid.  I am on 50 mg days 5-9 as well.  I thought that I had ovulated, but after my appointment today, my doctor told me she doesn't think that I did.  It actually overstimulated my ovaries, and I had one really large follicle.  It caused a ton of pain!! So, this cycle I am out and waiting for AF again and then we are going to try again.  My doc. wasn't monitoring me at all, but now that this happened they want to watch me a lot more closely, which is good. I didn't have any side effects from the 50 mgs.... except the overstimulation, which didn't happen until this cycle and I'm 21 days in.

Thank you so much girls.  It is the 50mg for CD5-9.  She didn't mention anything about monitoring.  She is an OB/GYN.  I am surprised she didn't want to check me with a baseline u/s anyway as it is just to see if there is anything going on before putting me on the clomid.  I think i need to call back and ask about the CD22 bloodwork and also the monitoring.  I think I would feel more comfortable being monitored also.  But, I am wondering if it's because it's not supposed to be considered "infertility" that maybe ins. won't pay??

I also was doing some reading and found out that people are being denied insurance coverage if they have been on clomid??  Anyone heard of this?

I was on it for three cycles.(50mg) but i guess it was a waist of time because one of my tubes was blocked and my cervix was nearly closed because of the scar tissue. I dont think you can go by my experience because of all the problems i had with cysts, and now knowing about the endometriosis. oen thing I will say to you is my Dr gave me the clomid and said come back in three months. the only reason I got an US right before O the first cycle was because of the pain. I had three mature follies. if your Dr doesn't offer to monitor you then ask for it. you should be on clomid (or any fertility meds) without being monitored with US to make sure everything is going ok especially the first few times you are on it.

the only month i didn't feel that much pain was the second month. but all my pain was contributed to everything else going on and maybe the combination of being on clomid... goodness knows.

I have a friend that got pregnant the first cycle with clomid. both her and her sister would go a year or two without a AF. I think she has PCOS because the dr put her on clomid and metformin. she now has a beautiful baby girl.

I wouldn't worry about the side affects. like Bam said we end up working ourselves up for it. keep us informed about how your body reacts. SSBD... im praying it works the first cycle!

I was on Clomid 50mg/100mg/150mg for 6 cycles and the only side effects I remembered having was breast pain, hot flashes, and bloating. RE took me off Clomid because it was making my uterus lining thin, so he put me on Gonal-F 112UI. If your Dr. recommends this med for you, it won't hurt to try. We might see a BFP your way soon. My cousin was on Clomid for 2 cycles and got pregnant the last try. Her daughter is now 1 year old. Good luck and I hope this info help.

One more question, is your dr a General Practioner or OB/GYN?  I see you saw the post on the fertility forum about checking for cysts.  I originally got my RX from my GP, but she knew that I was seeing an OB/GYN for follow up.

What dosage did you get prescribed and what CD days are you supposed to take it?  As you know, I did several rounds at 50mg.  At that low dosage the side effects should be practically null.  I think the more you sike yourself up for them, the more likely you are to get them.  I will say the biggest differance that I noticed is that pre-Clomid I never felt O pains.  On Clomid (and Femara) I FEEL O pains.  Not excruitating, just enough to let me know that the eggies are popping.

Good luck!!
