Baby Carriers...what do you recommend?

by chantal21, Apr 30, 2009 02:49PM
So Jeremiah is a year now and is just too heavy to carry anymore! We want to go fishing as a family one weekend and won't be able to take a stroller where we go. (narrow spaces, lots of dirt, etc.) When Jeremiah was much younger (before 3 months old) we would go fishing and out to places, but I used my Baby bjorn to carry him and it was so easy. Now that he is almost 30 pounds I need something heavy duty that daddy can use to carry him. I'm guessing something on his back? I've seen them before, but could anyone recommend a good, durable brand? And where did you find yours? I'd like to get one by this weekend (if I can), but I know nothing about them! Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

You could try an Ergo, which you can use on your front or on your back. http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/

Or alternatively get a framed backpack.  I have a MacPac Possum that's had a lot of use and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.  http://www.macpac.co.nz/shop/en_int/gear-and-clothing/packs/packs-child-carriers/possum-1.html

Thanks so much! I was reading up on Ergo a bit and they seem really nice. I will look into the other one you mentioned. Thanks a ton! I'm not familiar with these things, so any help is greatly appreciated. =)

I love, I mean LOVE my BabyHawk baby carrier.  Its made of soft fabric and can be worn as a front carrier, hip carrier and back carrier.  Its pricey but for me, it works well.  You can even pick the fabric you want to use.  www.babyhawk.com

You can find them other places beside the main website, too.

The babyhawk goes up to 30-35 pounds (best to check to verify) but they make one for toddlers, too.  Im not sure what that weight limit is.

Another vote for the BabyHawk.  I still carry my 38 pounder in it on occasion... and on rare occasion, my 45 pounder.

i just saw this post but make that a 3rd vote for the BabyHawk!!!!!!!!!!  its awesome and i love mine.  it was perfect for my ds as a newborn and is even better now that he's 1.  you can use them up until age 3 i think (although that might look kinda funny, lol!).
