Great Shade for Car Seats!

Great Shade for Car Seats!

I posted this once already, but it was before there was a forum specifically for baby products. I figured I would re-post it just in case anyone is interested. The reason I even thought of it is because someone came up to me in a parking lot today to ask me about it...which happens quite often. This is a must-have if you drive a car instead of an SUV or van!

I drive a car, so the sun was a major issue when shining through the back windshield onto my baby.
When he was an infant, the carrier had the built-in shade.
When he got to the point of needing a regular car seat, yet still had to face backward, the sun became a real problem.
After searching everywhere and all the specialty sites such as 1 Step Ahead, etc...we finally found a site that carries a sun shade that fits over a toddler seat.

When facing backwards, we just used the thing backwards. Unfortunately, the netting around part of it still allowed sunlight to hit the baby some, BUT... it DID give us a place to lay a light baby blanket so that we didn't have to use those window cling shades OR the suction cup shades (which can become projectiles during a car accident).

Now that my son is facing forward, we still use the shade, and on occasion still have to put a small, very thin baby blanket across it because we live in an area with a lot of hills...so he faces the sun directly during certain times of the day. Also, there is plenty of room when they're inside the shade so that they can still play with a toy or drink from a bottle, etc...
If you don't need extra coverage from a blanket, then they can still see through the mesh if you have it down, or you can just keep it unzipped altogether.

Anyway, just wanted to post the link to the shade. It's called a Sol-Kool shade. It has come in real handy since there really aren't any good shades that protect the kids from the sun when in a toddler seat.
I've even had people stop me in parking lots who happened to look into my car and see it, wanting to know where I got it. So apparently, this is a very common problem! :-)

This may be something everyone is already aware of, but I had never heard of it...

There are a couple of pictures in my profile of Levi sitting in his car seat, so you can see how the Sol Kool fits around the seat. We had the top/front unzipped (it has velcro to hold it to the top when unzipped) so the front would be open. Not the best pictures, but at least you can get an idea...

(he's asleep in one, and holding a bear in the other)
