hydrocortisone cream

Hi, my baby is 4 months old and developed a rash around her mouth it didnt seem to serious because it didint seem to itch her, i just assumed it was from her drooling or pacifier< i used the hydrocortisone cream that the doc gave me for a previous heat rash that she had, the rash has gone away but it left her skin completley discolored (lighter in color) does anyone know if her skin will come back to normal color The area doesnt seem to sffect her at all by the way....

It sound like the rash went through a layer of skin and the color is the lower layer. I would think there is nothing to worry about and it should come back. If it doesn't I guess you can ask her dr.

Hydrocortisone cream is used for eczema rashes. My daughter and son both had eczema very bad. My daughter had it sensitive skin and would break out alot, and my son had sensitive skin and allergies that would set off the rash. Both of them both used hydrocortizone cream.

Eczema rashes could aslo come from the skin drying out to much then the skin is dry and irritated and the rash comes. Eczema is also know to cause skin dis-coloration, after the rash leaves often in the spot where the rash was it will be discolored from the rest of the skin.

My son was so uneven and splotchy with his skin color because every time a rash would heal a little it would be a ligher color.

Only a very Serious Heat Rash would be prescribed hydrocortizone cream since in most cases you can just cool the baby keep them in side or apply calamine lotion to sooth itching. also a cool compress on the skin works well too.

The babys cant sweat sufficiantly yet so when they get very hot their sweat docks get blocked (under there skin) and fill with persperation which causes the irritated rash.

Poosibly if it didnt appear very serious befor and you received hydrocortizone cream and now she has another rash arround her mouth and the cream cleared it up well, it could be eczema. Check with your doctor if youre concerned. But the skin discoloration will get better given a little time to even out :)  Good Luck!
