Adult Toe Walker: What might be the cause?

I have walked on my toes since I was a baby!  Today someone asked me if I had Polio as a child because my walk is so noticably strange.  I told him I don't know why I walk this way.  I do know that today I woke up with a really stiff neck (often I have neck and upper back pain which might have made my walk worse.

If I wanted to investigate if there is any physical abnormality that causes me to walk this way, what kind of doctor would I see?  A podiatrist maybe?  Or, Dr., do you have any idea why an adult would walk on their toes?  If I REALLY think about it I can walk like a normal person but if I don't think about it, I get questions like the one today.  Your guidance would be much appreciated!  I tried a web search on this topic and didn't find much.

I would recommend that you see an Orthopaedic surgeon first.
Have a thorough leg and postual examination.

There are have a problem known as achilles tendon contracture, please notes it.
Achilles tendon contracture may reflect a congenital structural anomaly or a muscular reaction to chronic poor posture.
Good luck!
