Help my shoulder spasms please!!

by EmmaJane00, Apr 15, 2009 10:14AM
I also posted this in the general ortho board, but I'm desperate so I'm hoping I may get some answers here as well? Sunday evening I took a fall on my stairs and caught myself with my left hand/arm.  It was overextended above my head and really messed up my shoulder.  I went right away to my Dr's office Monday morning and was told I have some pulled muscles and possible rotator cuff injury and got a sling to wear as well as a Vicodin prescription and was told to rest it, keep the sling on, and use ice along with ibuprofen and the Vicodin as needed.  I've been doing just as I was told but am now getting horrible spasms in my shoulder and up to my neck any time I try to move.  It happens even when I'm moving my unaffected arm.  I can't even wash my hands or sit down in my chair without a horrible spasm!  I've also been taking a muscle relaxant (Robaxin) that I have prescribed to take as needed for a more chronic pain I occasionally get in my other shoulder and it doesn't seem to even touch it.  Is this just a normal part of the healing process of a pulled muscle or should I be concerned that something more serious is wrong?  I'm supposed to go back to work tomorrow but right now I can't even imagine it.  Any help or advice would be appreciated.  Thanks!
