Medial foraminal stenosis

What does Medial foraminal stenosis  mean?  MRI showed C6-7large left lateral herniated disk fragment 5mm posterior to the boney margin. Also,extends slightly superior and inferior to disk level measuring 8mm superoninferiorly. It produces sever left lateral recess stenosis displacing the left side of the cord posteriorly.It narrows the left side of the cord slightly. Any help to understand what this is trying to tell me would be greatly appreciated.

Hi sometimes just seeing what some of the terms used means can help us understand a bit more as to what is going on. Stinosis regardless where it is  is a narrowing of the spinal cord....if u have additional issues in that same area such as a bulging disk it can cause more issues than the stinosis alone.

Medial: 1. Pertaining to the middle; in or toward the middle; nearer the middle of the body. Medial is as opposed to lateral

Foraminal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal foramen, the hole through which passes a spinal nerve as it exits the spine (foramen basically just means "hole")

Superoinferior (not comparable)
(medicine) From superior to inferior; from upper to lower within the body
superoinferior motion
(anatomy) Pertaining to the vertical axis of the body, or a plane perpendicular to it
the superoinferior midpoint.
