Another Tweek in my back today...

Well, I was doing great this morning I had very little pain and did my walk and finally didn't have too much pain during and after. But then I did something stupid I needed to look at my good leg because my husband said it was very dry, cracking and pink. So, I was sitting on a chair and had my "bad leg" and tush on the chair and put my good leg straight out to look at it. I shouldn't have done that although I'm not sure that did the 'tweek" but I put my glasses on to see my leg and I bent some and felt a "tweek." It really freaked me out because I just was starting to get better and sometimes these tweeks have been very painful later. So, I freaked out, cried a couple of times and went and laid down. I took Celebrex and am icing it. So, i hope the next couple of days don't get worse. I am scared and so  tired of this it is hard. I want to get stronger not keep staying even. It is hard and I'm not doing much as it is. Well, wish me luck in this not being too bad of an event and that I get  through the pain without too long a set back. How do I prevent this other than not being so out to lunch? I am so careful most of the time, it's that 1% that is a doozy. Will I ever get through this?

Now I remember reading your post, the reason I didn't reply is because I really don't know the answer to your question and I'm not in the habit of sticking my nose in something I know nothing about.

Instinctively, I think you would start out with very gentle stretching and exercise and gradually increase them as you regain your strength. I was injured at P.T. too, I think a lot of them need more training.

Chiropractors can do some damage, people don't realize.
No, I haven't read that book. I'll check it out. Thanks

wow you really had a bad PT and I thought I got injured! You are "lucky" they didn't paralyze you how awful!  I don't trust chiropractors either. No way I would go to one. I did have a good PT once so I could go back to him. If I progress on my own I may or may not go to him. Too scared after the last two. The last PT did traction on my leg too and I could hardly walk after. He had to adjust my sacrum or something and then the next time I pulled a muscle. Then he said I wasn't presenting as a normal SI patient to get a hip MRI. So I will get the hip MRI just to check. The MRI (lumbar area) was negativo and the surgeon said the pelvis was in alignment and the SI joint didn't look off. So I don't really know what it is. Have you ever read the War on Pain by Dr. Scott Fishman. I think it is good if not helpful it is well written.
nice talking to you

About my injury, the Surgeon that sent me to P.T. deserves most of the blame for my injury, but the Therapist's are partially at fault too. They need to do a little thinking on their own once in awhile, instead of  blindly following the Doctors orders.

Prior to a neck surgery I was sent to Physical Therapy by my surgeon to have Mechanical traction. I had a minor disc extrusion that wasn't even a factor prior to the treatment, move and severely pinch a nerve root which caused major additional pain and symptoms for me, some of which I still have to this day.

A few months afterwards, I learned and was told that a patient with multiple disc herniations in the C-spine, I had 3, should never have mechanical traction. I could have been paralyzed.

The Therapist's I saw were not as qualified as yours, at this place most of the actual work was done by PTA's. The Therapist just evaluate you when you first come in and they just had a B.S. I feel lucky to get out of there walking, and I thought Chiropractors were dangerous.

I did work with a really good P.T when I was rehabbing from back surgery, so I do know there's some good ones out there.

I saw your post about S.I. joint problems, have yours been confirmed by X-ray? I know back when I was having low-back problems, one of my x-rays showed fairly significant sclerosis of the S.I. joint, but that wasn't my problem. Some of these diagnosis are so broad. Good luck trying to figure it out.

Sounds like you're on the right track with your exercises, hopefully you'll be able to do more and more soon.

Hi Kalvin,
THanks for you instinctively thoughts. I agree with you and aam trying to do that. How did you get injured by a PT?  The one I had had a Ph.D. but he did counter pressure manual therapy on the wrong leg (I trusted he was doing it for a reason duh). The second PT was  good but his judgement as to how quickly to move me forward really set me back. So that wasn't good I guess. He also had a Ph.D. from USC (supposed to have a good physical therapy training). I was much better off before going to the PT's. I do know a good one but not I am afraid I am too atrophied to let him touch me. He got me better the first time but I was not atrophied. So, I don't have nerve yet to go back to him. I think the best thing is to do as you say. I have strenghtening exercises I can do once I get there. (the bridge, clam, exercise ball against the wall stand and squat slightly, hold onto a coutertop and swing one leg while keeping the other still. I was doing all these and the pain went down then the sprain. So, I hope I can do it.  I am scared really as it has been almost a year.

Hi Kalvin, I did post my problems. Maybe I can copy and paste it here if you don't mind. But no I didn't have back surgery. See below (sorry it is so long). and then please write again.
I have low back pain. I first  was injured 4 years ago by doing something dumb, I have tendonitis in both wrists and was trying not to hurt my hands so I tied my dog to my belt loop on my pants and went for a walk with her. She yanked me and injured my back near the SI joint. I went to a physical therapist and he said I had a torn ligament and I got better after 6 months. No pain and was doing lots of walking and so forth. Then about a year ago I was diong yoga and did a position where you lay on your back and twist your shoulders one way and the hips the oposite way. I felt a pinch in the same area as the original injury. It got more painful after a couple of days. I went to a physical therpist got out of pain for a few days and then I bent over and forgot to bend my knees and reinjured it. I decided to go to another PT and he was doing manual therapy but did the wrong leg and really injured me to the point where I had to go on pain meds. I sat for a month and got atrophied. I had My MRI, and bone scan were normal. Orthopedic surgeon said my spine looked great. He said it was a dynamic not structural injury. He sent me to a pain doc who didn't do much and said I had chronic myofascial because I had had a previous injury. I went to a third PT  whom the doctor highly recommened who said I had SI joint dysfunction. I   was doing much better but then he started getting too aggressive (said he had a quota to get a bonus after a meeting he went to) and then he had me do a lunge on the floor and I pulled a muscle, then tracktion on the leg pulled a muscle. I also overdid it with exercises and pulled a muscle. Finally, I tore something near the SI but to the left not the spinal area and was out of commission for a couple of months. Again, I got very weak. So  I have either SI joint dysfunction or muscloskeltal injury or maybe myofascial. I am trying to do therapy on my own since two physical therapists didn't work. Since I am weak from sitting too much since the tear I don't want to reinjure myself again if possilble. Now I have had two minor reinjuries or set backs that lasted about two weeks. At this point I can walk 30 minutes (slowly) and 10 minutes in the afternoon. I am trying to do my stretches I learned from the physical therpist.. But I have stiffened up after not stretching for a couple of months. My question is general, how can I prevent reinjury?  I am doing the pyriformis stretech, knee to chest, rock knees side to side, tighten stomach and kegal, and pelvic tilt. I can do these but am limited in the distance I can move. I am so stiff that I cannot reach to wash myself below the waist without hurting and I can cross my injured leg while sitting in a chair but can't cross it well enough to put my pants on. Where should I go from here? I have seen my family practise unsure of diagnosis.  I just want to get better, please advise where to go or what to do next. How can I stop reinjuring myself.

I'm not familiar with your history, are you recovering from surgery?
