Back Problem Causing Leaking Problem? Doctors Are Speechless! PLEASE HELP!

Hello,
Here's my situation:
I sustained a pretty serious lower back injury about 5 years ago. Since that time, along with my lower back pain, I began having what appears to be a urological problem. I completely empty my bladder, however I expierience leaking for up to an hour or so after I go to the bathroom. It's not extreme leaking, more like lots of dripping I would say, however it is very uncomfortable and definately enough to where I can feel it on my boxers. The expierience is always alot worse the more my back hurts at the time...so if I'm in alot of pain due to my back, the leaking seems to be that much worse. I have seen numerous back doctors and urologists, and they say it can be related to my back injury but they are not sure whats causing it and none of the tests I've been through have shown anything. Hoping someone here might have an opinion to my medical mystery? Also, can this be neurological? Should I possibally see a neurologogist?  You have no idea how much I'd appreciate any help with this neverending headache! Thanks alot!

Hello Rob, I hope that nightmare will be over soon,

Do you have the same leaking when you are lying down?

I'd suggest to see a neurologist because the back injury might damaged the nerves that control the sphincter muscles. The best thing to do for now is to see what type of  incontinence you have (type 'different types of urinary incontinence' in google) just to get an idea what might be the cause. Hope you the best!

Thanks for the reply and concern! It has happened when laying down, but not nearly as much or as bad. I think alot of that has to do with the fact that when I'm laying down, the back pain is greatly reduced. I strongly believe that the worse the back pain, the worse the leaking problem...at least that's what it seems to me from the experience. That's why I know the two problems must be connected (not to mention the leaking started right after the back injury). I'm setting up an appointment tommorrow to go see a neurologist.

Thanks again!

Hello, I have had lower back pain for the past 19 years, but i was able to control it quite effectively with out having to go thru a surgery since about 8 years now. What i did for my bulging/herniated Disc is to have cupping Therapy performed on it ( Hijama in Arabic ). And i learned also thru the years that rubbing my back on a daily basis with either olive oil alone or in combination with camphor oil, and sometimes i substitute that with clove oil and mint oil and that helps quite a bit in not only relieving the pain, but the olive oil works as an anti-inflammatory as well, and has phenols which help rebuild the degenrative cells around the lumbar area to accelerate the healing. All the best. Mahmoud

Hello, its good that you are planning to see a neurologist. I'll also suggest you to visit a physical therapist after you are done with the present appointment. Physical therapists can actually help you to gain control over the bladder. there are various techniques as how to do so, like timed voiding, urge supression, etc. That will help you to stay active and do all you routine work without the worry of the "leak". Take Care
