Back and Shoulder Pain

I have been having lower back pain for a while now. I recently had knee surgery and was having tingling in my uper thighs down to the knees, so I went to my doctor thinking it might be a problem concerning my knees. He said that I should speak with a neurologist because of the back pain. I went to see him but he diagnosed it as just a back sprain. This was over a month ago. The pain is tremendous, and if anyone touches the area, I almost start to cry, (and I dont cry easily).

In the last week I have been getting this burning stinging, really painfull sensation in my left shoulder. It starts and goes through my collar bone area and up the side of my neck. It happens 50+ times a day, and is really interfering with my life. I can find no trigger for it, or anyway to get it to stop. Although each instance only last maybe a few seconds, it feels like forever, and happens often.

I dont know if the back and shoulder pain are related, but because both are on my left side, I thought they might be. Has anyone experienced these symptoms, or know of anything they might be?

Thanks for your help

He didn't do any type of test, he just told me he thought it was a sprain, and told me to come back in three months if it wasnt better. I have never had shoulder, or neck trouble, which is why it has taken me so off guard.

Its sounds like there's a little more to your low back pain than a strain, how did he come up with that diagnosis, did you have X-rays or an MRI?

As far as the shoulder pain, do you have any neck problems or history of neck problems?
