Cervical Sprain

by Elbozo, Aug 19, 2008 06:08AM
Hello everyone!

I'm here to ask a weird question... You see, I went to the ER after having a panic attack after I was feeling some weird symptoms on my neck (dizzyness and pain on the left side of my neck... I'm not sure what it was but it felt as if i was having a painful neck spasm and i thought my neck vein was going to explode)... I went to the ER and they diagnosed a cervical sprain. I do recall not sleeping with a pillow a couple of nights before this incident and moving my head in a whiplash direction since I do that often to tie my hair (my hair is pretty long)... but my neck did not hurt (i didn't feel any pain whatsoever) until after I was consuming some cannabis and the cannabis would intensify the feeling... the doctor prescribed robaxin (a muscle relaxant) but i stopped taking them after i felt my face going numb so I got scared. Now i have been waiting for the pain to go away but the thing is that the pain goes away and then comes back again. I also have a lump on my neck (i think its attached to some muscle because it keeps having small spasms after i move my head down)... i have also been experiencing dizzyness and sometimes vertigo. this has been going on for almost 2 weeks now. I cannot really sleep well because of the bothersome feeling i get on my neck.

does anyone know what this might be?
thank you for your time!

best regards

I had a friend who pretty much had the same problem it was relieved when she cut her hair. Long hair is heavy and tends to pull your head back and the constant wieght will sprain your neck. Do not whip your hair around anymore especially since you have hurt your neck, it will only make matters worse. Consider cutting your hair and go see a good massage therapist for the spasm in your neck. I'm almost confident you will feel better.

good luck

Vertigo and dizzyness can be caused by the spasm in your neck. I have had 6 neck fusion and sometimes get vertigo when my neck is stiff or in spasm. If you start having pain or tingling, numbness in your arms see your doctor. Other than that no I don't think it will damage anything. You might want to try a chiropractor also?

thanks noneck for the response!

yea i'm looking to see a few chiropractors that could help me out with this.

but the thing is i keep getting worried cause the vertigo and dizzyness has laster for more than 3 days straight...

also, just right now i had like a sour glow worm and while i was swallowing, i felt a "snap" on the left side of my neck, as if a vein just "popped" or had some sort of "electrical discharge"... i'm worried about this. what could this be?

thanks!

I have had the vertigo for up to a week at a time and it disapeared just as quickly as it appeared. I still think it's from your neck spasm.
As far as popping in your neck it happens to me also and can make things feel better for while. Sometimes maybe a day or two after it pops do I feel better.
Have you considered cutting your hair? The bad news is once a person hurts their neck it will always cause some problems from thime to time, be careful of your neck from now on. If the chiro can't make you any better in two weeks then stop or try another who won't string you out with a never ending program.

Good luck and keep us posted
