Cervical disc replacement.

by cmedina, Oct 06, 2009 08:15PM
I have had 3 back surgeries at L5-S1. The last surgery they did a RAY cage. I still have chronic pain. Now I need a cerical fusion or disc replacement. Have you heard of the Medtronic Prestige® Cervical Disc ? Is it any better than the Prodic-C or Bryan disc procedure. I am worried about metal on metal. with the Medtronic Prestige® Cervical Disc . I no cervical surgery is not as bad as lumber but still not sure whether fusion or disc replacement is the best for me. Has anyone had this surgery with the medtonics device? I am supposed to have surgery 9/29/09. I really need so feedback. I can only type with one hand so this takes awhile.

Thanks,
Chris

I have had the Prestige Disc surgery at the C-5 Level. Had the Surgery in Dec. / Jan. of 2003 and felt pretty good right after. Now I feel I am back where I started and have sore neck, headaches and sometimes numbness in arm. Not sure if I would do it again given the outcome. Had surgery in Spokane, WA and was in clinical trial. After the SX of course, I had no real support group as far as Dr. I had plenty of family, but once I started having pain again, had to pratically beg the Dr. to believe that I was really having pain again. The Dr. that I have now I really like, she has ahd me try a number of things, including PT/ Massage. I do still have to take pain meds once in awhile and wish that I did not have to, but think it may be something I have to deal with the rest of my life. I still have other cerv. discs that need help and not sure what the outcome will be as far as that goes. Wish you luck, please post and let me know how you are doing. BTW my initial problems were cause by a car accident in 2000.
sincerely,
t.

just had cervical disc replacement 9 days ago. C6-7.  Perfect 1st two days, now having some pain.  very curious to know how your surgery went.  How long did you wear the soft collar.  When did you start activities.  I am feeling good enough to be horribly bored, but don't want to upset anything.
