Cervical fusion for chronic vertigo?

by carrollce, Jul 03, 2009 09:02AM
Hi! I have had chronic vertigo for over 22 years and after many visits with doctors of ENT, neurologists, chiropractors, etc., I am running out of options. The only avenue that I have not taken is with a orthopedic doctor. Since inner ear problems have been ruled out to a certain extent, it has been narrowed down to my neck being unstable due to muscle or ligament damage plus bone spurs, arthritis or possible stenosis of the spinal canal, I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this approach to the resolution of chronic vertigo. I also have neck pain, a burning sensation in the rear neck area and shoulder pain. I am almost at my wits end in that I am running out of answers as to what is causing this vertigo and so far no medication or therapy has helped. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

In any of your MRI'S was there ever any mention of low lying tonsils or a Chiari Malformation? Was there any mention of tonsil herniation? Chiari is when the lowest part of the brain is pushed down by the spinal cord. There is a forum on this site for Chiari and many people there experience vertigo and dizziness all the time.
Look under the C category on the forums. Someone on that board may be able to help you with some answers.
