Chiari Malformation undetected in MRI?

Chiari Malformation undetected in MRI?

I have many symptoms of chiarimalformation and did two years ago when I had an MRI done. The MRI only showed that the back part of my septum pellucidum was missing. No sign of Chiari. WellI am wondering, isn't MRI the most difinitive way to tell if you have Chiari? If I don't have it than I wonder what i do have :-/. Docs suggest hyperthyroid, I just need to have the blood work done. Thanks please helkp if you can.

Yes usually a brain mri shows tonsels (sp) hanging down which is a major red flag for CH.

There is a lot of info here in the Chiari forum if you have not visited there yet.An mri is only as good as the person reading it.

we do have a great chiari forum here on Medhelp! As toolmaker said it all depends on the person reading the mri unfortunately. Look at your mri report and see if it says anything about "low lying cerebrial tonsils" If you have other questions just ask! But you may want to post them in the chiari forum cause you will get more answers from people that have been through this! Blessings ~ Shannon
