Chronic Low back pain/tailbone pain. HELP!

Hello,

I am a 38 year old female that gave birth to a daughter in April of 2008. During the last trimester of my pregnancy, I developed a stabbing pain in the lower left side of back. I saw my OBGYN and she found that I had a kidney infection and gave me antibiotics. The pain did not go away and continued throughout the final weeks of my pregnancy. I began to think that the baby was pressing on a nerve that caused the pain. After I had my baby (I had an epidural) the pain in my lower back grew worse. I then thought it was weight related because I gained over 60 lbs while pregnant! I finally saw my doctor and he thought I had a pinched nerve in my back so he prescribed pain meds and sent me to PT. I started PT and did this for 3 months. I also began to loose the baby weight very slowly. The pain persisted, and grew chronic. The pain went from a dull ache, to stabbing to spasms. I began to have numbness in leg and foot. I continued my PT until my health insurance no longer allowed me to go. I thought I was getting better, but somewhere in them middle of the therapy I reverted back and the pain came back stronger. I continued to exercise through the pain and lost all the weight I gained plus an extra 10 lbs. I have had xrays, CT scans and MRIs done. I have seen a neurologist as well. All I get is there was "nothing significant" on the test and I am not a candidate for surgery. They found that I have bulging discs and problems in the L5/S1 area. I decided to try steroid injections and had the first one in January 2009. I felt better, but within a month the pain was back. I then scheduled another shot in March 2009. The week before the second shot I began to have intense pain on my tailbone and shooting pains in my buttocks. When I went for the second steroid shot, I told the surgeon and he gave me one shot in the tailbone area. The shot he gave me was the most painful thing ever, more painful than childbirth. They shot the needle right on the tailbone and the nerve in my butt. I hoped this would finally cure me, but within 2 months the pain was back. I am at my wits end. It disrupts my sleep so I feel exhausted all the time. I have a 14 month old to take care of and I don't know what else to do. I want acupuncture treatments, but I cannot afford them. I exercise daily to get moving even though most of the time I am in excruciating pain. Any suggestions for further treatments? The pain meds worked, but I can't take those forever. I am desperate for any help. Thank you!
