DDD and bladder incontience

I have degenerative disk disease also some herniation of the spine...I am on oxycontin for the pain.
I have had bladder urgency and stress incontience for years (59 yr old female)....NOW when I lay down doesn't matter if its during the day or at night....for an hour or two I get this very sudden urge and I do jump up immediately and RUN to the toilet.....but more often than not I cannot make it there without losing full bladder control...
my doctors say this is common with my type of back problem (as they look at you with a disgusted look on their faces)..so I ask few questions on this matter.
My question today is WHY does this happen and what can I do???
thx

hi and thanks for responding again..
I don't know what spinal nerves are affected with my DDD?.. the 2 doctors I see most frequent do not attempt to even discuss the incontience with me they just ask if its gotten any worse than drop the subject and I am too ashamed to push for more info. they do not mention medications....i did try that years ago (can't remember which one) and had to d/c because of some side effects. Yes I did have a lift done 7 yrs ago for stress incontience and it helped alot, but I sure don't want to have surgery again if I can help....I am on so many meds now...what do u suggest would help?
thx Pat

Your bladder issues could be directly related to your degenerative disc disease and any associated disc herniation depending on what spinal nerves are being affected by these conditions and whether there is also spinal cord involvement.
I am curious as to why your doctors are "disgusted" with your concerns.  It seems that they would welcome a discussion of your current symptoms and work with you regarding initiating appropriate treatment.
What are they proposing other than giving you medication?  Have you had prior surgical intervention?  Please provide additional info regarding your current treatment and we might be able to assist you further.
Best wishes ----
