Deep shoulder/spine pain

Hi I am new to this site so please bare with me if I am posting in the wrong area.

I'm a 23 year old male and had a motorcycle accident when I was 16, I used to be a mechanic but was made redundant when I was 18.

Untill recently about 8 weeks ago I used to have minor pains in my back which I put down to my posture and a bad matress, I now have a deep pain in my shoulder (left) which I think is muscular or possibly a trapped nerve and a pain all the way down my spine which is now starting to worry me as I'm getting chest pains and tingling in my left arm, I have been to my doctor and he hasn't been able to find anything wrong with me, I was given a course of co-codamol 8/500 mg which to be honest didn't really help me out.

I have tried shoulder excersise' to help but it just seems to be making my shoulder worse, as it's now feeling tighter and am struggling to lift my arm above my head.

Will a chiropractor be able to help or do you think I will need to see an orthopeadic doctor any advice is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest that you first see an orthopedic doctor for appropriate evaluation.  Several possible factors could be contributing to your pain, and a chiropractor may not be equipped by training or experience to accurately determine what they are.  One that should definitely be evaluated for is bone spurs associated with a partial tear of the shoulder rotator cuff -- a problem that should not be treated with chiropractic. The chest pain aspect concerns me, however, in that it may suggest something totally different -- like circulatory or cardiac problems.

After you have consulted with a qualified medical professional, you may be referred to a trainer or physical therapist. If you can possibly find a local indoor swimming pool, you may find that your shoulder pain will benefit from regular exercises in the water and from a gradually increased program of swimming laps.  Let your orthopedic specialist be your guide in this.

Thank you for your response.

I should have mentioned that when I first started getting these chest pains and tingling I went to A+E where I had my heart checked by 3 doctors and was given the all clear on that side of things, so I now am thinking that it is down to my back/shoulder pain.

I enjoy swimming and havn't been in a long time so that advice is brilliant and I will go and see if that helps, but you reccomend I see an orthopedic doctor first that makes sense as it does feel deeper than bone, if that makes any sense.

Again, thank you.

Id recommend seeing a chiropractor as they are experts in the muscular/skeletal system and went to school to study this exclusively!! Id advise anyone to do their research first and find one that practices two things: The Pettibon System which is a full spine reguvenation program and secondly, decompression therapy. Best of luck to u in ur endeavors!!
