Diagonised with Slip Disc..

Hello All

My Mom age 48 got diagnoised with Slip Disc. She feels numbness on her thighs and lower parts of knees. Cant walk properly and cant balance while walking.

Doctors suggested for a surgery and we are afraid as one of our family members had same issue and got paralysed after the surgery.

Any Suggestions other than Surgery ???

Thanks
Nanda

Hi thanks for the replys...

We are worried about getting the slip disc set by surgery as we fear about having spine fluid leakage :(

Is surgery suggested??? Please guys help...

A friend of mine suggested Ayurvedic ( quite famous in India for Slip dic ) but we are worried if we spend time on Ayurvedic treatment the problem may go worse...

Really in a broken situation :(

Do physical therapy first. Ever heard of McKenzie techniques? There are PTs speacialize in that. so look for those. if you can't find one, you can always buy his book. good luck

I would go for a second opinion possibly. Has she started with the basic treatments?? Oral steroids, physical therapy ? Also some people get relief from the series of  steroid injections a pain management dr can do. A warm moist heating pad helps me with chronic pain. Maybe there are meds they can prescribe like muscle relaxers and something like Lyrica for nerve pain. Acupuncture and massage can be helpful. I had three lumbar surgeries in less than three years and am still in a great deal of chronic pain. I had a lumbar fusion about 4 yrs ago and it didn't help at all. Hopefully you can find the right combination of treatments do she feels better.
