Further Disc Injury

Further Disc Injury

I injured my back on the job in January of 1998. Ultimately I was diagnosed with a herniated Nucleus Pulposa. In December of 2000 I underwent a diskectomy and hemilaminectomy on the right side to relieve the pressure from the nerve root at my leg had gone numb all the way to my knee. It was 2 years from the date of injury to the surgery. It took that long to get a proper diagnosis through Worker's Comp here in Oklahoma. For the present. this past December I was walking back from the bathroom on my break and one of my co-workers slammed into my left shoulder with his left shoulder as a playful type playback from us accidentally bumping into him a few days earlier. He hit me harder than he intended. I immediately felt my lower left back, which to this point had never suffered any tyoe of trauma, tighten up and pop. The next several weeks the pain was so severe it reminded me of the weeks following my previous back surgery. During this period I literally felt my lower vertebrae move out of place. When this happened I was unable to stand or walk. I was in the process of getting out of bed when this happened and laid back in the same position immediately. I had to lay there and move my leg back and forth and grab the headboard with my hands and the footboard with my toes to releive the pressure from my spine in order to work the vertebrae halfway back to normal. Once I was able to stand it took nearly 4 days before I could stand up straight again. This has happened 4 times since this first time to varying degrees and at varying times of activity. I also have a popping and grinding sensation from time to time that leaves me in severe pain for period of 3-4 days at a time. My MRI showed the previous surgery but also showed a disc bulge and annular tear on the left side of the same disc I had surgery on. I also have a transitional vertebrae at the S1 region. It is my understanding that the surgery took place at the L5-S1 disc although some radiologists called it the L4-L5 disc. My anesthesiologist is recommending injections that "burn the tips of the nerves" for pain management. What is this type off injection? And shouldn't the stability of my spine be the number one concern at this point? What other options are out there? Would a Cat Scan be of help? Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thank you.
