Has anyone loose his/her job because a back/neck problem?

Am in a very difficult week as I have to choose between keep working or maybe loosing my job. I dont know if some of you are aware but in some industries like aviation you have to be 100% fit to be able to keep your job.
Not being 100% fit means the company can terminate your employment as this is a safety issue for the passengers.

I was told that if my company knows that I have herniated disc i will loose my job and I would be entitle to any compensation.

Have any one being trough something similar? I already ask the union and they told me unless I can prove that this condition is work related there is nothing they can do.

Thanks for any comments.

I have good news. I spoke with several peolple including my union rep and I will be somehow protected. Remeber I dont want to go on insurance or being incapacitated. For now what I need is to remain in my job and continue treatment.

So for now am OK. What am going to do now is to consult a Labor Law Firm to confirm what my options are in case I cant work any more.  Good luck to you and hope you feel better.

I had a work related injury to my back and neck and I still lost my job over a year ago. W.C. declared me M.M.I. and able to work but the pain was very bad. I went to a private doctor who took me out of work for 4 weeks to rest and I losy my job. The union did all they could but it did not help. Sorry I do not have good news. I was not able to do my duties that i was hired for, so they were able to let me go and not renew my contract even though the injury was work related. these things can and do happen all the time. By the way I was not compensated since W.C. said i could work. Of course I have an attorney that is handling this case. You can find out if your union has lawyers that you can contact reagrding this matter.
