Having some severe pain from my neck!!

Right, as a mothers day gift to my mother, i built her a flower bed i was working flatout for four hours getting this done i was on my hands a knees, carrying large bags of compost and lots of bricks. I had finished for the day and when i went to bed i felt achy but i think anyone would from that long without a break. I woke up Sunday morning in agony, i couldn't look down without being in pain. Now today, Monday i am in so much pain i can't cry but i have to laugh because it hurts so much. I will give this until the end of the week before i make a doctors appointment. If you have any idea what this may be, or whether its just a stretched muscle i will be really grateful because i'm at breaking point with it!

Thankyou in advance for ANY replies!

Welcome to the Back and Neck Community. Members are  here to provide assistance and support to individuals experiencing symptoms related to possible abnormal conditions of the spine. Advice given is non-professional and is primarily based on personal experiences

Any increase in activity that includes repetitive motion (lifting, carrying etc) and intensive effort can result in muscular strain/sprain to the affected areas.  In your case it would include neck and back pain and other joint areas such as the knees from lengthy kneeling.  Trying to stretch them out can result in acute discomfort and the immediate inclination is to "not move a muscle."  Sprain/strain injuries can take time healing and using comfort measures during the initial recovery period can be helpful.  Ice initially, then followed by moist heat, anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Advil or Aleve, maintaining hydration and good nutrition, and slow stretching exercises (not causing acute pain) can be beneficial.
Sprain/strains that persist over a period of time may require a more intensive physiotherapy program to include ultrasound, electrical stimulation and massage under the guidance of a physical therapist.
If your condition does not abate after a few days, make an appt with your primary care physician for a clinical exam and possible referral to physical therapy.
Use the comfort measures as indicated for partial relief at this time.
Post again with an update and additional questions/concerns you may have.
Best wishes ---

P.S.  Happy Spring!   May her flower bed flourish ---
