Help

Well, I managed to pull all the muscles in my upper/lower back over a week ago. I rec'd this injury from lifting a student out of a wheelchair three times a day for a couple of weeks then another student punched my back four times between my shoulder blades. I broke my tailbone June 24th of this year and managed to agrivate it even more while sledding during December. Anyway, my doc. presc. muscle relaxers and ppills along with massage therapy. My spine is fine, it is just muscle. Tailbones take forever, if ever, to heal. I cannot take anti-inflamitories.

Question: I went for massage therapy. I was on my back, ice/heat, for the entire weekend. My hips hurt to even move or even lay down. Standing up was better but I can't stand all day/night. I felt better this morning. I went for massage therapy again today. Same thing AGAIN I am in pain, on my back, ice/heat, it hurts to take the laundry out of the washing machine, my hips are killing me. Is this normal??????? I'm thinking of doing some Yoga when I get this pain under control and just stretching out my back. I called the doctor and see him tomorrow, again.

Any thoughts, suggestions, similar stories?

what makes you think its only your muscles that are injured i think its possible that there are a wide range of conditions that you could be suffering from i think you should get some serious medical attention maybe from a specialist if you are cleared of any serious problems like a ruptured disk and your problems still persist after massage and physical therapy you might want to try chiropractic

First of all, yes, massage therapy on a situation like yours will feel like its hurting more. This is because your blood is moving to the injured areas and speeding up the healing process. By HYDRATING (3/4 your body weight EVERYDAY) and getting massaged regularly, you should see an improvement in about 3-6 months depending on your commitment.

Second, I recommend as a massage therapist that you see a chiropractor and a massage therapist regularly. Yoga is also great for your body in balancing and flexibilty. If you can handle it, I suggest you cut back on the meds the doc is giving you. Massage will push those through your system and make you sick.

Good luck and keep up with the ice and heat. Ice when it is inflammed or hot or painful. Heat when its achy. Dont forget to DRINK water!
