Compare with other alternative therapy,Medical acupuncture doing good job for soft tissue injury which lead to your extremely tight in the occipital area or the mid-neck area.attention:MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE( as general TCM acupuncture point isn't so powerful for soft tissue injury in neck area)
Deep tissue massage also recommended.
Good luck!
I have same issue. Pain changes paths and places for me. Has your physiatrist done an EMG? Do you have any arm pain, numbness or tingling? I am 7 months out from my injury and still fighting to get an answer as to what is causing my nerve pain. I am probably going to have a Thoracic MRI next. Also starting acupuncture in a week.
I hope you are feeling better soon. keep posting your progress.

Yes, I had 2 MRI's, 2 x-rays done and looked at by a top neurosurgeon and physiatrist (same office). I have mild bulging on my C5-6 I think and a small bone spur but nothing that is causing the pain I'm having. They said people with no pain probably have worse MRI findings that I do. The x-ray came out clean. Basically, it looks like I'm dealing with soft tissue injury, muscle pain and possible ligament damage (that is healing slowly). The tightness of the muscles and stiffness is what bothers me the most. I plan to start physical therapy at the suggestion of the physiatrist. I've only had one gentle massage treatment on my "neck" by the therapist at the chiro's office. I also have an osteopath who has said I've progressed well since November, but it's just frustrating to still be so tight/stiff.
Just wondering what others think about the muscle tightness "moving" around -- like to get as much advice as I can!
Thanks for your concern. I just have so many new questions that pop up - that I can't possibly ask the doctor every single one so it's often easier to come here and research it myself, THEN confirm it with whomever is treating me. Since the injury I've become very proactive about my health!
Hi,Have anyone given you a clear diagnosis? Did they make sure you have nothing wrong in cervial spine? Without proffesional examination, don't rush do any treatment.
